Where to build around Baton Rouge?

My husband and I want to build within the next 5 years or so but are completely stumped on where to find a piece of land. We don't want to be in a neighborhood, would prefer to find a good 2 acres plot or even more if available and within budget. Where are the best places to look? We would love to stay around south Baton Rouge, somewhere off Nicholson or Rive Road, even in Iberville Parish but on this side of the river would work for us. Can anyone point me in the right direction? This is completely new to us and I am not from here so I don't know where to find land by the acre. We drove around today looking around Bayou Paul in St. Gabriel, some nice houses scattered around but didn't see much for sale in the way of land.

How much are you willing to spend per acre?

Well right now the budget isn't even set. We are so far off that we just want to find areas with land and see the prices so we know how much to save over the next few years. I've never looked at land so I have no clue how much to even say per acre.

Good land is hard to find in BR for a good price. It's a sellers market right now.

Does not have to be within city limits. We went driving around St. Gabriel today and that wasn't far at all. Would prefer to stay around South Baton Rouge, though but we are open to areas outside of that if something comes up for the right price.

I know of an area in Prairieville right outside of south BR that is about to be developed. 14 lots total. All lots will be 1 to 1.5 acres. They're going to be a little pricey.

It would be very helpful if you could post several pictures of yourself so we can ascertain your fitness level and potential to properly maintain differing properties.

I feel like you've mentioned this before (or someone else on this board). Is this some sort of secret development or something? If not, what's the name of said development?

I have a husband but I am a man. I don't think you want pictures of me.

Brings a whole new meaning to "man cave" doesn't it? Maybe we should start a gay compound? Nah, we don't like most other gay guys so we would be as miserable there as most of you would.
