Does racial tension actually exist in Baton Rouge/LSU?

We see these protests from small groups of black students on campus swearing that their lives are living hell because they're black. In reality, I feel there is less racial tension here in the deep south than most northern hellholes. In fact, I'd venture to say the only racial tension here is that dug up by baiting "activists." In all of my years in BR and on LSU, I've never run into a daily situation in which race seemed to play any role whatsoever. The average citizenry here just seems to not care, both black and white, and that is how it should be.
As I walk through LSU's campus, it seems as if every third person is a minority, so they cannot be too oppressed when there are so many of them attending the state's best public university.

There Are certainly some segments that offer guff to any sort of decent folks.
But, due to the fact that many of us work alongside people of color, and see people, just like you and I, that work hard, try to provide for their families, and are decent people, the tension isn't there as much.
Treat people that deserve respect with respect no matter the color or creed.
You'll live a better life.

It really is strange and worth noting the south has been mostly immune to the black lives matter shite and riots happening elsewhere in the country.
Oh and us southerners don't consider Florida and Missouri the south.

Doesn't mean I don't ever let a few choice words fly when I'm aggravated at a situation. If that's what makes me a racist, then I'm a racist. Whatever.
But personally, to me, what matters is the relationship I've formed sharing blood, sweat and tears with men of every race, color and creed. When you put your life in the hands of the man next to you and he does likewise, you don't care about his melanin or his music or his political leanings.
You worry because you know that the both of you have a baby girl at home that needs Her daddy to make it home. People that count on them.
Nobody is better or worse than anyone when it comes to the shite hitting the fan. You earn respect in spite of previous prejudices.
You'll find, when you give a little bit of human kindness, you usually find that reciprocated among people who are in the same sort of situation. I've broken bread with mexican, blacks, islanders, ecuadorans, Nicaraguans, etc.
Treat people as people first. Learn a little about them and you'll find we arent so different. The walls between us are ones made by those that wish to use us as pawns.

I think it's that a lot of people in Louisiana have actually seen legitimate adversity in their lives, so they aren't as susceptible to victimhood whoring as these little queers up on twitter.

There's a whole part of down that white people abandoned (called "North Baton Rouge,"maybe you've heard of it) and you think racial tension doesn't exist?
There was a movement to split off the vastly majority white unincorporated area of town in order to stop cross town bussing of people from North Baton Rouge (which failed, rightly) and you think racial tension doesn't exist?

There have also been zones in downtown or north Baton Rouge that politicians had developed as fiefdoms and didn't really like development.
When the rebuild downtown movement began 20 years ago, there was actually resistance because it would invariably bring more white voters into safe black districts. The redlining you reference goes both ways.
On a more day to day, individual level, I find people get along much better than ever before. Is it perfect? No. But for all the commentary, each generation of kids today interact more than the generation proceeding.
