Black people and white people have been cool in Baton Rouge since the mid-seventies. We have lived beside each other for generations. Our kids are best friends. But the Black Grievance Industry is big business, and a major agitprop project of The Left. So it can essentially be rolled out anywhere at any time. They just have to throw out enough provocations and hope one sticks. When it inevitably comes to us, the best strategy is just realizing it is cynically contrived laughing, and ignoring it. That takes away all their power.

America in general is not a very racist country outside of a few bad eggs. Look at Europe for example, black people get bananas thrown at them and are physically removed/prevented from entering subways. Id like to see these BLM protesters try this shite in the eastern block and see how quickly their shite gets dealt with.

Overall, I don't think so, but older generations, in general, still have a certain mindset when it comes to race that doesn't reflect the times. There is also the less educated who are raised to be racist and that applies to every race. But fr33 pretty much summed it all up.
People who truly stereotype people from a certain race are just ignorant. There have been times when I have felt more welcomed than ever by people who are a different race than I am. The stuff you see going on around college campuses has nothing to do with people of a certain race, its people of a certain age. You think every single black person is behind a bunch of college students protesting? Not at all. Its just that some people see it as a certain race doing stupid shite, where as people of the same race see it as a bunch of young ignorant kids who thinks its unfair that people who were acting like criminals (even if they were not) got treated like criminals. If anything, whenever there is any type of "racial tension" its usually fabricated through rumors, irresponsible reporting, etc.

I agree with the overall sentiment of this thread. I went to undergrad and grad at LSU and experienced almost no racial issues. The only thing that comes to mind is an occassional drunk good ole boy in Tigerland full of the liquid courage. Professionally, I have experienced more of what I call a racial glass ceiling/bias than anything personal. Overall most people I have met, regardless of their ethnicity are good people focused on providing a quality life for their families and being good parents.

Not exactly answering your question because I have never lived in BR or attended LSU, but here is my observation as a 48 year old. I taught and coached high school for 20 years and I have 2 teenage kids. I don't see the tension between races in my daily life nor my kids lives at all. In fact, I have seen today's kids be more open and accepting of differences than my peers and I ever were growing up. To me it's simple to get along with anybody if you simply treat each person based on your interaction with that individual. Also, it's amazing what little things like a smile and a nod hello or holding a door open can do to show people that you are a decent person and they will usually respond in kind. Racists will always be there, and they can't be reasoned with, so I don't spend my time or energy trying to "change" them.

This is the crux of it. It's not that whites dislike black skin. It's that almost every black neighborhood is a crime ridden ghetto and almost all violent crime is committed by blacks. Every one of us can point to a neighborhood that once was tidy and pleasant and is now run-down and dangerous. It happens often and I don't know why it has to happen, but it does. So it's only natural for white home owners to dread that happening in their own area.
