Ish Smith's can be found for minimum deals.
Posted on 11/21/15 at 5:56 pm to Fun Bunch
He's a better player than a minimum guy but not as good as some in this thread claim.
Have to wonder what we do post cole(I think he's gone after this year tbh) Could draft a guy in the late 1st or 2nd.

NBA PG PER
28. Ish Smith playing 29 mpg - 16.20 PER - $1.1m
29. Patty Mills - 16.18 PER - $4.3m
31. Avery Bradley - 15.97 PER - $8m
31. Jarret Jack - 15.97 PER - $6.3m
34. Rajon Rondo - 15.73 PER - $9.5m
36. Rodney Stuckey - 15.45 PER - $7m
38. Jrue Holiday - 15.12 PER - $10.2m
39. Darren Collison - 15.04 PER - $5m
42. George Hill - 14.04 PER - $8m
47. Monta Ellis - 12.61 PER - $11m
48. JJ Barea - 12.14 PER - $4m
49. Jose Calderon - 12.10 PER - $7.2m
56. Derrick Rose - 11.19 PER - $20m
65. Jameer Nelson - 8.97 PER - $4.5m
66. Ray Felton - 8.72 PER - $4m
67. Ty Lawson - 8.05 PER - $12m
Other Notables who Ish > PER
33. Dennis Schroeder
35. Jordan Clarkson
42. MCW
45. Elfrid Payton
46. D'Angelo Russell
58. Marcus Smart
62. Mudiay
Only this board would seek out the negative of a guy helping this team while playing on a minimum contract
The league is full of small, vet PGs who are/will play 10+ years in this league. It is also full of 40% shooting PGs, some who make huge money.
At the end of the year, when Ish goes to ink that next deal for some nice guaranteed cake, we will know without a doubt:

No one is seeking out the negative I don't think.

In a thread meant to praise the guy, there are more posts pointing out his deficiencies.
He hasnt even been on this team a month and looks better in this offense every game. TS% up to 49%. He's not a knock down shooter, but the way he can create to set up has teammates has been pretty impressive. Hustles on D. Dude is becoming a quintessential 2nd unit PG

I've liked the way he is using the space defenses give him by probing and keeping his dribble alive. At first you could just see him standing and pounding, now he's putting pressure on defenses.
He's a backup, but they certainly have done and could do much worse. With Holiday's health a perpetual question mark, I'd rather have Ish running the offense than Cole.

Lol at Ty Lawson
ETA: Ish is a good backup that has strengths and flaws like any player. It's not like anyone is calling him trash.
He's miles better than the ARs/Jimmers and even Roberts.
We're in really good shape with Jrue/Reke/EG/Cole/Ish as the 5 guards.

Agreed. Ish is a good end of the bench guy that won't get you killed if he's asked to play 10 minutes a game. He shouldn't be playing more than that on a team without injuries though.

He's a good spark player, but I'm concerned about his consistency and shooting. In a small ball lineup, I think he works well.
When you're playing asik or ajinca I think I value shooting a lot more.

One game does not a shooter make.

People keep writing him off for one reason or another. Meanwhile, he's getting it done every night. Ish > Jrue.

Jrues played fine considering he can't play back to backs and practice restrictions.
Ish deserves a lot a credit himself.

I'm wrong. He's good.
(I didn't see the game. I'm out of the country. Saw the boxscore)

I will admit that he's better than I initially thought, but you can't deny his flaws.
People are definitely overreacting.

gentry has a reputation as a PG whisperer
maybe all it is is he's given smith some confidence...
a few of those jumpers were poor shots, but they went in
I was and have been more impressed with his ability to probe/press/engage the opponents perimeter D without picking up his dribble
it's so so so obvious that this offense is dependent on penetration or threat of from the ballhandler...the "dribble drive" offense that so many have suggested is the best fit for this team
ish may never score 20 in his life again, but that's not needed
right now he is a huge part of the turnaround and has been a revelation based on his reputation coming in
