From what I've read, they tried to make an album that didn't totally consume them. They also took a lot of time away from the band and just kind of wrote stuff from different places, then came together and recorded it. Frankly, I enjoy of lot of stuff that Dan the Automator works on, but he was just an awful fit to produce a dredg album.
I still hold out hope that they'll get the itch again and decide to go out on a high note as opposed to the low note that is Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy. Gavin is a family man now and Drew seems to be focusing on painting more than anything, so it probably won't happen.
