I love Les, but trying to hold him high after losing to the same team for the 5th straight time is not making it better.

Let's bring in spurrier if we're going to use such guideline

I love Les, but he can't get over the hump as long as Saban is at Bama. It is what it is.

What are you looking for? Wins or championships

Now, lets list all NCAAF coaches with more championships than coach LES!

problem is Les the reason we're good, but he's also the reason we'll never be great.

I see the argument you're trying to make, but you're ignoring the potential coaches just waiting to break out (Tom Herman for example). Obviously the trouble is finding the right one. If you're wrong, you end up being Tennessee for over a decade. I think I'd rather stick with Les and hope for a lucky break one year (like 2007).

It's not that you're wrong or that I don't appreciate this.
My issue is that it's necessary to do this at all. Miles has been shat on by the LSU fan base literally before he ever to a step onto the field in Tempe back in 2005. for many, there has never been anything he could do to win them over...and they've been miserable each and every step of the way.
I bet we could all name a handful of people we know personally who spent the better part of the 2011 season fricking miserable, right?
This has made a situation on boards like this where now you can;t have a legitimate discussion about Miles, the program, etc...at all. the well was poisoned LONG before there was ever a reason to even look into the damn well!
I think that Miles and his program DO deserve some criticism after 5 straight REALLY meaningful losses to our bitter rival...but to what end? Those that hat Miles and have since day 1 don;t need my input to dislike them guy, and I'm not eager to give them any red meat. And you're put in a position to make posts like this, which while true look like nothing but an attempt to deflect...which it is.
I'm not offering a solution, btw...I think we're long past that in terms of discussion about Miles on this forum...

Go back and look at when Tennessee got frustrated with Fulmer. LSU would probly fare just as bad finding a new coach right now as Tennessee has for the past 8 years.

Define Success?
2 SEC titles in 11 years? 3 Division titles in 11 years?
Auburn has more SEC west titles and SEC titles than Les in the last 8 years and more NC appearances and titles than Les.
Since Texas A&M has come into this league, despite LSU killing them, they have the same amount of hardware on their mantles.
Spurrier had 3 11 win seasons in a row and beat the same Clemson team LSU lost to in the bowl game on the road.
That is just looking at the SEC. Hell, Patterson has done more at TCU in the past few years.
Les has not won a BCS bowl since 2007 and has been to one BCS bowl since his last national title.
Again, he's a good recruiter, good man, but has let this team flounder and struggle because he refuses to make the tough decisions with his coaches.
There was literally no reason to bring Peveto back. Steele was a multi-time failure as a DC and a position coach, yet Les hired him to replace Chavis. Again, Les is not as good as someone of you like to believe, and I doubt had he taken over anything but the juggernaut LSU already was in 2005 that this team would be anything more than an annual 8-5 team on average.

That's good, and since the both of them are still coaching, third best is good right!? Why have first when you could have third. Your right. We should settle.

So you think Texas should have kept Brown? Maybe Tenn. should still have Fulmer today?
