With the total dominance by Bama at line of scrimmage, my afterthoughts of the game is that we had our best chance to win by going to these guys in isolation over and over again - I'm talking not just once per possession, but 1-2 times per set of downs.....absolutely only way to truly stretch the field and at least try to wear down Bama pressure on their line - pass rushing and chasing a scrambling QB is equal to or more exhausting to a big lineman as tackling Fournette with 7 vs 5 in run coverage. Given what we saw in our inability to run the ball at all, I would've gambled going to these two talented WR's in the 15-30+ yd routes in isolation all night long until they proved they could stop us - what is usually considered the lowest percentage play in Football was actually our best way to stay in this game - and who knows, if we could've kept this game down to one score til the end, Saban and his boys may have gone into a protection shell like Les is known for doing and given us some momentum to pull this game out - wishful thinking maybe considering line domination on both sides, but stranger things have happened in College Football.

So going 6/19 on 21 pass plays called in not proving they could stop us?

The problem with our passing game is we only throw deep balls. If we had a short passing game with screens and god forbid the occasional quick slant etc., it wouldn't allow the pressure to be as effective as when Harris is sitting in the pocket waiting for the receiver to get open.

I just re watched it.
Our guys played hard.

Into second half was a killer.
13-10 at that point. Gave them a short field and they got a TD.

Lacatour is only guy on our line that resembles size wise to Alabama.
Neal was a non factor.
Godchaux didn't do anything and key looks a WR compared to Bamas guys.
Also their dbs played really hard and tackled well.
Some of the tfl they had in fournette were due to stunts more so than penetration, they were unblocked.

I like how kiffe mm gives Coker easy throws to make, perhaps LSU should give that philosophy a shot.
Seems a fly/go route down the sidelines is our favorite pass play.
Not a high percentage play to complete regardless who's throwing and catching.

Need to gear up for last 3, no reason we can't win all of them.

Lastly I noticed Alabama had 7 starters on defense that were srs.
Two juniors.

We are young team that will only get better.
Do need some more Tyson Jackson, lavalais, Kyle Williams, Dorsey type players up front though.

If Dural stays for his senior season hopefully Tyron will have come along by next year and we see some 3 WR looks.

That would be a pretty deadly trio at WR and it's a set that you can still run out of in either single back or I formation.

Harris missed quite a few short throws. He was rattled the whole game.

I counted at least 3 passes that were play action with 1 man routes.... which were double covered. Absolutely nowhere to go with the ball

I think there are some other things that could have been effective as well. I like your idea, but I probably wouldn't want to go to it as often as you describe, and Harris' health would be a critical aspect of it. He was hurting, but I don't know to what extent.

Here's the problem with your theory. We would have lost by 35 if we had done that.

No, the coaches did the right thing. In hindsight they could have thrown more on first down to start the game.

We did. We have these guys for a reason. Use them when it's not working on the ground.
