Death penalty question/ lack of death drug solutions for lethal injection.

I keep reading how the "humane" death by lethal injection drugs are super expensive and getting harder and harder to come by.
I got a super simple suggestion that would be really humane, painless and basically free for states to use.
Heroin.
Tons of this nasty drug are confiscated annually. It can be lethal in small doses, and is a death sentence in large doses.
Why not inject these people on death row with a good bit of Heroin? More than enough to kill them. They will feel euphoric and no pain, and then die from the overdose.
It would only cost states the amount they take from their own evidence lockers. It's just as deadly as the drugs used now and probably even more humane.
If I was truly in charge of picking the "drug" I would just inject them with a very large syringe full of air, and let them die of an Air Embolism, which is a very painful way to go.

This will fill the need quite nicely.

Not a bad solution.
Though I would prefer steel cable. Strong and reusable. With Styx' Renegade playing in the background.

I say go back to hanging. Rope is cheap and can be used over and over.

Let's just take it a step further and administer a massive dose of morphine.

The French knew what was up with the guillotine.

It would also allow them to use "Heroin Kills" in their anti drug propaganda. Seems like a win win.

Should bring back firing squad and/or hangings.

Firing squad and guillotine are both more humane than lethal injection.

It wouldn't be "basically" free because you couldn't use confiscated street drugs - you would need pharamceutical grade heroin. And a doctor, and a nurse, and a procedure room.
How about something simple? A platform, a rope and a trap door. The platform can be used over and over again, with minimal maintenance. You will have to adjust the rope every time. A proper hanging - meaning calibrated for the weight of the condemned is HIGHLY humane, in that the neck snaps instantly and there is virtually no felt sensation. Always err on the side of caution so that, worst case, the head pops off (rather than the other way, where the condemned suffocates slowly).
Problem solved. All this mucking about with other methods ignores the tried but true "hanging by the neck until dead". There is some deterrent factor to that, IMHO, rather than no fear of a hospital gurney and a nice comfortable shot. We're depriving ourselves of the psychological effect of a hanging by going overboard with this "humaneness" of execution.

the thing is, in this day and age it has to be humane and not bloody or damaging to the body.
Shooting you have to make someone a killer (I know you have the person with the blanks who does not know he has blanks)
Hanging is great too, but again, many see it as cruel and inhumane.
Tons of illegal drugs just sitting waiting to be destroyed. Would be a great way to save the state's money on death sentences.

Morphine may be more practical as it can be obtained legally, I was just thinking it's a use of the drugs in police custody already.

I've been a proponent of bringing back hanging for a long time.
It's a visual and visceral deterrent.
Do it in the town square, charge admission and leave the bodies hanging up as a warning to the pedophiles and murderers what awaits them.
Bonus...let the families of the victims secure the rope and pull the lever.

I agree, I do not think it should be humane. I would be fine with stabbing an artery and letting them bleed out, or just drowning them.
Like some of the crimes I read about in Nola, I think the best punishment would be walk them off a plank into the river. If they live, they are free, if they die, then good.

I don't want to live in a place that has bodies hanging up in town square. I'm not against public executions, I just don't want them in super public areas like a square or a park. Outside a courthouse behind a fence? Sure.
