I just moved out to Colorado this past July after living in Birmingham most of my life. I am in my mid 20's and just got married so our move was more about starting our life together in a new place....but man this is a great place to live. I live south of Denver and the cost of living is insane, but Colorado Springs is way more affordable. We thought about living there for a while but the better opportunity job wise was in the Denver area.

Ultimately money is a deciding factor and having stuff to do is great, but you really make big decisions like this because you're excited about the change and the new opportunity. I make close to the same here as I did in Alabama (and the cost of living is about double) but it was a great decision for us. Colorado Springs is very, very nice. If you are even questioning your current job and you and your family feel the least bit excited about a new place, then do it. I tell everyone back where I'm from that you could never regret moving to Colorado.

P.S. it does, in fact, smell like weed in a bunch of different places. But you get used to it.

Here are a few questions I would like to try to answer, if this was me. Do you think your new boss will be there long? Do you think that you will get recruited again or have a shot of getting another job this easy again? Will this new job offer an opportunity to advance? What is the cost of living comparison? Will your wife be able to find a job? How secure is this new job?

Some people tend to put their primary focus on the almighty dollar. Odds are that this will provide temporary happiness, but you will never be truly satisfied. So please don't let money be your primary focus. If you could live comfortably on the salary that the new job offers, I would take the new job.

Also, that was my lesson to not stay somewhere when I'm miserable out of comfort or stability. It's not worth it

The decision is fhis: I am being HEAVILY recruited by a similar organization in Colorado Springs, Co. I know nothing about Colorado. I pretty much hate cold weather but love the scenery up there. It's nearly a $10,000 pay cut as well. But it is the type of job I would thrive at. It is led by the type of people you dream of working for. It is truly a special place.

where are you moving from? Cause Colorado is a lot more expensive than pretty much everywhere in the south. You will feel the 10k pay cut.

Weighed all our options. spoke with my wife and friends that know me best...

Time to move on. By this time next month I'll be in Colorado Springs. My heart is full of joy and grief. I hate to leave behind those I love. and our financial future is certainly not as clear.

But I think this is the stuff that destiny is made out of.

Man, now I feel a lot of pressure since you took my advice. I may have been a bit hasty. Are you sure you don't want to stay a bit longer?

Colorado's on the cusp of a $25 billion tax increase (edit) to pay for "universal health care."

Good luck with that, brosephus.

Also have to look at the cost of insurance etc. Medical insurance costs may be SIGNIFICANTLY different. At least check it out before making decision.

Spent 7 years rapidly moving up the ranks of an organization I truly valued and believed in the mission of. Ran into a legitimate office conflict the last 18 months. Even while receiving gratification via colleagues and the folks I worked on projects with etc., and while being given a total of around 30% in raises during that same time period, I realized that the conflict was no longer worth what I was being paid to endure it for.

Walked away from a mission I thought was incredibly worthy and a level of subject matter expertise that was very valuable to me and the organization.

I found the decision to walk-while staying salary neutral-was the most gratifying professional decision of my adult life.

They say the old Chinese Proverb states that those who wait by the riverbank long enough will see their dead enemies float by. I realized I didn't want to spend another second on the riverbank. I made enough friends that they dropped postcards when they saw them floating by, and they all did. Eventually.

But I didn't have the time to waste in my life being unhappy.

You are making the right decision. It's scary. It's unfamiliar. But all change is. Life is defined in how you deal with it. Good luck.

ETA: Ironically, I just realized that my one year Anniversary at the new gig is today.

I'm sure this has been posted but if the outfit in co wants you, 10k isn't a deal breaker for them
