Didn't realize it was open.

Noticed it was operating on Friday night leaving Boo at the Zoo. They spent a lot of money on that property and place looks great.

A Craigslist posting for kitchen help describes the style as High End American.

One of the main features is a whiskey bar, over 200 American whiskeys, as well as a selection of imports.

Interesting.... I use the same description on my dating profile.

Thought it was pretty good. They just opened a few days ago and are still working some things out. The bourbon selection is good but limited right now to about 65 bourbons (they have Pappy 20 for you ballers), and the waitress said they will build the scotch and Japanese whisky inventory next.
The food was kind of hit or miss. The fried grits with proscuitto were pretty stellar, but the smoked oysters on a bed of hay didn't really do it for me. The raw oysters were all good. The smoked trout entree was strange as it was almost like a room temperature dish, and the texture was a little offputting. The chicken under a brick was tasty, as was the steak. Prices are high and portions are moderate.

Tia Pol in NYC is pretty popular. It'll be interesting to see how these folks do.

Went last night.
First off, it is a beautiful space. They did a really great job.
The bar area was packed. They were booked for the night so a friend and I sat at the oyster bar.
The menu was a little fancier than I expected, but it was very good. I went with my friend who works in the Bourbon and Whiskey industry (and I don't mean a bartender ) and he was very impressed with the Whiskey selection.
We did have the hay oysters. They were delicious, but not a good value. 4 small oysters packed with flavor, but a high price.
I got pompano and he got pork shoulder, both were delicious.
Nice spot. Recommended.

Good stuff, nice review!
I looked online and can't find a menu. Has anyone seen one?
I'm curious about the ability to pair whiskey and fish. How did that work?
Posted on 10/30/15 at 10:03 am to Oenophile Brah
Look, I'm no expert on pairings or anything.
But the pompano and the broth they were in both had a bit of a smokey/char flavor to them, which I thought worked well with the whiskey.
Honestly, I was much more interested in a lot of the small plates and apps. When I got back with my wife eventually I will order some more of those.
Don't ask what we drank, I let my buddy order since he knows these things.

Girl in my office went earlier this week. She said it was amazing. Something about fried grits and a few other things that sounded great.

Looks like they are packing them in. Meanwhile, Saveur had like 3 tables the other night ...

Saveur wasn't particularly good

Nola.com Review
I went for lunch a couple months back and thought it was average food at a high price. Great ambiance and whiskey selection though. Just don't see myself returning here when Coquette is just down the street.

4 beans? Wow. Went about a month ago and tried 4 of their small plates. All were pretty mediocre.

This is the consensus vibe I've gotten about the place. Haven't been, though.
