The day we closed on the house, we met the previous owners at the house for some wine and cheese. He wanted to discuss things like the sprinkler system, router control room, and the two separate air systems. Normal stuff.

If a home has previous owners then it doesn't qualify as being brand new.

Actually kinda interesting story.

Calling someone who is mentally challenged "retarded" is pretty offensive.
My younger siblings are mentally challenged and someone calls them retarded those are fighting words to me.
Also....since he is giving you a great deal on lawn service.....I really hope you tip him very well come Christmas time. It's not like there are a ton of job opportunities available for those with his mental deficits.

There's a kid JUST like this in my neighborhood.. I think he's slightly autistic but dudes a beast on the lawnmower
ETA: and to touch on the topic at hand now, my only input is that sometimes I use the word 'retard' or 'retarded' and will sometimes think of my godchild who has Down syndrome.. But he's neither a 'retard' nor 'retarded' in my opinion so the word really don't bother me

You are such an uptight frick about your yard that you schedule when it rains? Interesting

I was thinking a bit about this. How many people do you think actually haggle with the kid? He probably takes some pride in the fact that he negotiated with you on a price, rather than you simply conceding to pay whatever he asked because he is "special". You treated him like he didn't have a disability.
I agree with some posters on here that you might consider paying him more (you can renegotiate the price, or simply give him a performance bonus at the end of the season) because of the exceptional work he has done. You can say, "I appreciate the job you did on my yard this year, and I want to recognize your effort with a tip."
Anyway...good story...I expected so much less from you.
