I am in El Paso right now. Just got invited to Juarez for the bull fights but I didn't bring my passport. I'm with two guys who used to live here and has familia that still does. I have not been robbed, assaulted or met any cartel members. Now I do live in a border county in Texas so El Paso is ok by me.

They changed the rules a few years ago and a passport book or card is now required to get back. Ten years ago you could walk across the bridge on a Thursday night and go to several clubs that all had $10 drink til you drown specials. All you needed to get back was a quarter and maybe an ID, don't remember.

El Paso is a fine place to stop for a day or two if you are travelling but nobody makes a special trip there unless it is for the Sun Bowl or work. There are some quality Mexican restaurants, plenty of good looking latina women, some decent strip clubs, and a great boot outlet store (Lucchese). There is also an award winning steakhouse nearby. ( Cattleman's)

I thought El Paso was a shite hole the first few years I went there but the town has grown on me. Good people, good food, cowboy/mexican attitude. I wouldn't rank it as a Best City in America in any category but it isn't as bad as its rep.

Also, there are many whites and a few blacks, mostly on the east side, due to Ft Bliss.

I live in Brewster county Texas and ride along 170 on the border, go to Presidio and spend time in Big Bend all along the border. Go sit along the Rio Grande and still alive. I just hope I make it out of El Paso. I was going to go by the hospital but I didn't want to take any fire from across the border.

I go there for work a lot. It is nothing great as far as a city. The food beyond Mexican sucks and it is definitely not safe in certain areas at night. My biggest complaint is the airport. It is somehow worse than NOLA's airport.
