Wut? You're completely missing his point.
I see his point, but it's identity politics and ignoring the simple facts of the case. His point is distraction.

You do realize the reason her politics was brought up is because someone on page 1 made a joke that clearly alluded to her being republican, don't you?

Nobody wants her to be sued into oblivion...people just want her to do the job she swore an oath to uphold. Plain and simple. Anything more is distraction and semantics.

And people who preach tolerance are being massive hypocrites in this situation. And I think they should be called out on it. I don't support what she did/is doing at all. Yes...but one person's flawed argument does not make it everyone's.

I bet you're one of those morons who says "Religion is the cause of most wars throughout history!"
may not be the most but certainly one of the relevant causes of war.
but that aside religion is indeed the greatest scam the world has ever seen. People have believed in the bullshite of religion since the dawn of time and have never received one single piece of evidence that the supernatural exists.

Maybe not you but go read some of the reactions to her being taken to jail and possibly taken to civil court for "damages". Hell there's one person in this thread who wants that.

Where did he say it was everyone's? If anyone is guilty of spinning, it's you

simple as that

Less than 10% of wars throughout recorded history were motivated by religious reasons.

I agree. And she should be there. But people saying she needs to be sued into oblivion because she caused couples great "pain and suffering" need to just be quiet. Those couples could have gone to ANY other courthouse and gotten a licence. They chose her to make a point.

well, she may have her convictions....
but these licenses are not her property, they're of the state, and she's just a clerk.
and still quite confused, cuz I'm quite sure the judge gave her an opportunity to do her job and she obviously refused.

Exactly. She's in jail like she should be and should be impeached. Nothing more. Nothing less.

The judge's remark about not getting to pick and choose which laws we follow is lolworthy. When is the fed gonna do anything about colorado and washington's little marijuana party? The feds pick and choose which laws to follow every day.
Just fine the lady, the indefinite jail is just making her a martyr. Kentucky is the one that should be handling this...

How so? It's a textbook case of ignoring a court-ordered constitutional mandate, punishable by... Contempt of court! She had three options: 1) Follow the mandate of Obergefell
And that's where my question lies: I don't think Obergefell applies. If she is refusing to issue licenses to everyone--which is what her attorneys likely advised her to do for this very reason--she's not discriminating based on sexual orientation. She's not doing her job, but she's not really in violation of the 14th. I guess I'll just have to read the District Court's opinion to see how it crafted the contempt order.
I'm under the impression that Kentucky (following appeal of the contempt order) will be back to square one: either she resigns, or the state's impeachment process must begin (or some other state remedy to rid itself of a non-compliant elected official).

It is nice to know that Cruiserhog of Little Rock, Arkansas has definitively established that many of history's greatest academics, artists, musicians, writers and scientists were total fricking idiots.

She has to be impeached. She's an elected official.
