Worse talent level in Payton era

This is the worst overall talent we've had since Sean Payton has been here . Take away Drew Brees and I'm pretty sure we go winless in the NFL this year . All the people saying this is 2006 all over again are crazy this team is nowhere near the talent of that team . I know it's been beat to death but the lack of quality draft picks and overspending on players that haven't produced dick have finally come back to bite us . Mickey will not survive this nor will Rob Ryan. Payton will not be fired . 4-12 . At least I'll move up on the waiting list????

I swear this is the most emo fan base I've ever seen. Do you listen to My Chemical Romance?

No. It isn't.

Pretty sure any team with Jason David was vastly worse.

I know I've been critical of the recent drafts and Ryan, but you make me look like a sunshine pumper!!!

Honestly, who are the above average talents on this team?
Brees
Ingram (borderline)
Cooks
Armstead
Unger
Hicks
Cam Jordan
Lewis
Is that it? Am I missing anyone?
I can't really disagree with the OP. This feels like a 7-8 win team to me and honestly, that's because of Brees.

i think there is definitely an argument.
our drafts have been terrible, and then we've traded 2 of our best picks in Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills to try and supplement our lack of overall talent. Carl Nicks & Bushrod being other gems that we had to let walk in recent years.
can't stress enough how terrible our drafts have been. From 09-2012 have been especially atrocious. 14' looks bad top to bottom too.

You're just realizing now that Brees has been saving Payton and Loomis' jobs for the past 2-3 years

A healthy Brees and an improved O line will have the offense back on track and winning 7-9 games. With another weak year in the South, it may just win the division. Payton's job is safe.
Rob Ryan will be gone and replaced by Dennis Allen.
Loomis will have one last year to make up from what has been a horrific run in decision making from 2010 - 2014.

I 100% agree with this.
We have put way too much stock in shelling out big bucks for free agents.
What makes it worse is constantly pushing money into the future, so that when a player does reach the end, we're on the books with a ton of dead money.
The FO philosophy needs to change as far as player acquisitions. More emphasis needs to be put on the draft, rather than free agency. Having rookies contribute on a rookie contract is a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened very frequently for us recently.
*oh, and a compensatory pick or 2 would also be nice, but we wouldn't know anything about that.
I say tear the whole MFer down and start from scratch.

That's every year since 06

How the hell does this have 38 down votes? Outside of QB is there one elite unit on this team? We have only two NFL caliber WRs, no tight ends, a secondary that hasn't been reliable since late 2013, nothing proven at linebacker, etc. If Brees were to get hurt we'd be lucky to win a game and I think deep down everyone here knows it. The Texans game was a good example of what we'd look like.

Honest question, did you start watching last year?
Posted on 9/3/15 at 3:55 am to xraytech
I'm sorry dude, but there is pretty good talent on the team. The problem is there isn't much durability or experience. If they all gel well and physical gifts make up for the lack of experience they can make the playoffs this season.

I get it 2014 was a let down primarily on defense but in 2013 that unit finished 4th in the league in total defense and 4th in sacks with arguably lesser talent than we have now and Rob Ryan who many on here want shite canned after one great year and one lousy year.
All of this worry and anxiety over fricking preseason games.
