Say it ain't so Joe. Everybody I know thinks it should happen.

The state’s latest plan to widen Interstate 10 through the heart of Baton Rouge is sparking opposition, skepticism and a smattering of wait and see.
“It’s still a bad idea, absolutely,” said Troy Menier, whose family has operated Troy’s Barber Shop a few yards off Perkins Road by the interstate for nearly half a century.
Irma Jones took a break from her exercise class at the Leo S. Butler Community Center to criticize the state’s proposal.
Under the plan, a new lane in each direction would be added to I-10 between the bridge and the I-10/12 split at a cost of up to $350 million.

Does this sound a bit light to anyone else?

The problem is the bridge. It's not the number of lanes up to the bridge.

That isn't for a new bridge. It's just to improve I-10 on the East bank to the split I believe.

“The second reason is Baton Rouge already has enough traffic,” Menier said. “Put in more lanes, and it will have more traffic.”
From the article. The I-10/110 exchange is the worst engineering possible for the city.

Before that, a $200 million widening push by DOTD gained traction for a while in the early 2000s but eventually died.
fricking idiots keep lingering and the price just keeps getting higher. Probably will never happen.

That's the place that uses clippers attached to vacuum cleaners, weird.

This is the problem. Just get the hell out of the way, people. You can't complain about shitty infrastructure and then inhibit the very progress of the need you're bitching about.
This state is going to continue to hamstring progress of many because of the butthurt of the few.

Are you suggesting we destroy the bridge?
It's unorthodox but it just might work. I'd like to hear more about this plan of yours......

That may be true, but when the annual average daily traffic counts in certain spots in this stretch of interstate are as high as 160,000+ vehicles per day, there has to be some concern about capacity.

While the drivers may be awful, the interstate system (and road/traffic system in general) in BR is pretty much abominable. It's not a mutually exclusive thing by any stretch.

They should have built a loop yrs ago...traffic is horrible between laf all the way thru br because we have idiots running stuff

I think it needs to happen, but another bridge near Plaqumine should have priority over this...

True, if only their cars were skinnier then two could fit in the same lane and the problem would be solved!!!!

Have you ever played Oregon Trail? Fording a river is highly underrated.

I just hope they don't do anything to change the Overpass area before developers can figure out how much more shite they can cram into the area. I want to see how far our "planning" commission will let things go and I want to see how much traffic and parking hassle people will put up with to eat at the new it place that paid 225 to write an article and give it an award.

If space is the issue, then why is nobody talking about stacking one side of the interstate over the other? I.e, put the east bound lanes on top of the westbound from the bridge to just past College Dr.
