I vehemently disagree with them and their position; however, I'm not going to judge them. I have no idea what I would say or do if my child was gunned down by an insane person on national television.

How do background checks look for mental illness?
If someone saw a therapist because of his/her anorexia (mental illness) would they be prevented from buying a gun?

But would you rather be in a position to defend yourself from a knife / blade or someone with a gun?
This logic is so jacked and nonsensical.
The question isn't would I rather defend myself from a knife or a gun, what someone else arms themself with is totally out of an individual's control.
You know what factor can be controlled for though? What protection I have. 10 times out of 10 I would rather have a gun to defend myself with against a gun or a knife.

I still can't believe some people are so easily willing to give up their rights our forefathers fought so hard to instill.
How about a more common sense approach?
Why not let technology create a gun that can only be shot by the person who buys it! This is already in development with several different ideas.
If you could create a gun that can only be shot by the person registered to buy it would solve many gun related issues:
1. Kids could no longer accidently shoot themselves or other siblings.
2. Guns would be useless to thieves.
3. Guns would be useless to criminals taking the gun from cops and shooting them with it.
4. Cops could easily track who used the gun in case a crime was committed.

I don't think you know what common sense is. Common sense says something like that is a fantasy that could never be made.

Especially someone that is on a recent downward spiral like this guy was.

Nearly anywhere? You really this insecure with your argument that you make a big deal of loose terminology? Probably the same guy who creams himself when he gets to correct someone calling a magazine a clip. "Automatic" refers to the chamber being reloaded by the act of pulling the trigger. You can call it "semi automatic" if you want but it's not wrong.
I am not a gun owner, but if you're going to argue for gun control, you damn well better know the terminology and how they work.

The next step for the gun control crowd is to require full medical records disclosure prior to a gun purchase. Book it.

Biometric Trigger Lock
They are actually working on some cool ideas in this area.

I know the terminology. I got my first gun at 8 years old. Two years later I got my first shotgun, a Remington 1100, that is commonly referred to as an "automatic" because pulling the trigger reloads the chamber. God damn, people.

They are grieving and I understand their rage.
If there were no guns the dipshit would have used a machete. Work on mental health and reigning in the media.

No it isn't.

And that doesn't make them cheap, doesn't make the old guns go away, nor does it make them reliable in emergency situations.

I've never heard of this commonly referred to automatic shotgun. Or did you have an AA12?

I didn't go through all the we love guns pages but am I the only that gets a weird feeling by how political and matter of fact the dad and boyfriend are? The girl was killed on live TV and 24 hrs later the dad is in front of every microphone he can find with barely a stutter.
I know people react to tragedy in different ways but I would at least expect his tie to be crooked or something

When you allow the government to define things, you get directly onto an ice and KY jelly covered side of a 10,000ft mountain. You give an inch, and they'll take a mile.
What if we allowed the gov to set the bar at who is mentally incapable of owning a gun? Does everyone in the entire country now need to go to a shrink before buying each gun? So since I have ADD, does that make me incapable? I've been around guns my entire life, and all of mine serve a purpose (not for toying around). So now some guy who hasn't ever even touched a gun is suddenly more capable than me, and I'm a crazy maniac who's gonna go on a spree?

but but but universal background checks infringe on my freedom!!!
What in this guy's background would been have triggered to take away his ability to buy a gun?
All the ridiculous lawsuits he filed, the multiple jobs he was terminated from, including the time he had to be escorted out by police. As someone just said, he was clearly on a downward spiral.
