Actually, it's fairly well-known that a new alpha male lion usually kills the cubs of the previous alpha. They aren't really the adopting type. The basis of this behavior is that when the females lose their cubs, they begin the breeding cycle with the new alpha, hence his genes take over the area.
Well please let me know when Scar eats Mufassa's little ones. Until then, you can't say the cubs are certainly dead.

I think to show the difference in means to pursue a species can help people understand conservation through hunting. The lion he shot was a lone rogue who needed to be taken out of the population, not like Cecil. I get that some people don't like it (based on your sarcasm, I assume you don't) but what these ethical hunters do is better for the population than people who bitch about the hunting of lions over the internet.
i can give a shite about most lines kilt. ( ) but the thing i start rolling my eyes on is all the favors they acted like they did. This dude didn't go to africa to save a village, he did it to shoot a lion to get his rocks off and to bring back and mount and show everyone how cool he is and how much money he has to waste. That's it. Not to feed the hungry and or save the next african child.

You're still speculating this will happen. Apparently, they still have a male lion in the pride. Nobody knows for certain if he will be defeated or not. Nobody knows if he will even be challenged. You can't guarantee the cubs survival even with Cecil in the picture. They could possibly been taken over with Cecil there, 13 years old is pretty damn old. How much did he really have left in the tank?

Truth, and it's pretty disingenuous to claim otherwise.

You are right...no one can but their chance of survival has dramatically decreased. Not guaranteed death but a bleak outlook.
It's frustrating to me because it could have been avoided.
I have no issue with him killing a trophy, it just wasn't done in an ethical, legal (we'll have to see how this plays out), or conservation-minded way.

And you're speculating that it won't. Congrats on being obtuse.

I haven't read or watched anything about the lion's death, but don't have an inkling of sympathy or disappointment about it. Would've been interesting if the lion had eaten the dentist though.
All the lions in the world could be extinct and I would not give one shite.
Bring on football and deer season.

Now you are putting words in his mouth. He never said you anything about supporting hunters behavior. He is talking about duck hunters supporting deer hunters and guys that hunt locally supporting big game/trophy hunters.

Everyone who hunts should support everyone else who hunts
You added far more words than I did when I paraphrased his statement.

I only hunt game that I can eat.
This. I duck and deer hunt occasionally. Whatever I shoot goes on the grill/table.
Big game/trophy hunting doesn't interest me in the least and idiots like the MN dentist give left wing loonies an in to paint any and all hunters with a dirty brush.

I never really understood the appeal of trophy safaris in Africa. I would much rather go on a "photography safari" and frame pics taken on the trip.
I know a zebra isn't considered a "trophy animal," but killing one of these is akin to killing a wild horse.

I'm saying I don't know.

You sure are fighting hard against the documented and studied likelihood to not know.

Same as a deer, except zebra meat is 1000 times better.
It seems like most people that are sensitive to killing animals, (while having meat stuck between their teeth) only complain about the "pretty" ones getting killed, or the "majestic" ones getting killed.

A lot of people feel the same way. They're just not willing to pony up 10K to take pictures. And the small amount of money they do come up with just doesn't cut it when it comes to financing the guys necessary to combat poaching.

I'm saying why not wait and see what happens. One thing is just as likely as the next. So many people are rushing to judgment, why not wait and see what happens. It could possibly have no effect on the cubs.
Not that anyone will follow this story, because who honestly gives two shits about a bunch of lion cubs in Africa. People just like to get worked up and offended.

Your 'rogue' lion was just doing lion shite, out there getting strong so he could whip a weak arse lion like Cecil's arse one day, kill his kids, and take his women...making the genetics stronger and stronger. Instead we have Cecils old arse thinking he can defend a territory, but he didn't, a dentist with a high caliber rifle got in there and saved a whole village. He is a hero....except he really screwed up the natural order. The rogue lion was on his way to take what was his and strengthen the numbers...now all the lions are screwed.
I don't see a difference in shooting Cecil and putting a dog to sleep in a vets office. I really don't care. But to think that man can get in there and really show nature how nature should be managed is pretty prideful.

Anyone who respects a legitimate hunt should be disgusted by the situation. They drove out in an SUV and bated a majestic creature out from its protected preserve. They destroyed the GPS collar to cover their tracks and lied to the authorities. Everything about the hunt is despicable, I'm sure he probably took his shot when the lion was laying down too.

Because no one is going to stay tuned into to this story long enough to know if Simba and Nala will be killed by Scar or not, and that's detrimental to his argument.
