Jefferson Parish has told Uber to hit the road. The parish attorney's office sent the international ride-hailing company a cease-and-desist order threatening a $500 daily fine, a ban on future operations and even criminal prosecution for starting service without government permission.

The letter went out Monday (June 29), three days after Uber Technologies Inc. expanded from New Orleans into Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes. But if New Orleans has explicitly authorized the service and St. Tammany officials have welcomed it, Jefferson has not been so warm. The Parish Council in April voted down a measure that would have authorized, and regulated, Uber and other companies that use mobile phone technology to link people hunting a ride with nearby drivers.

"Uber does this in a lot of markets. They're not approved to go work there, but they send their drivers anyway," said Rebecca Walls, spokesperson for the Who's Driving You? campaign. "I don't know if they'll necessarily pull out completely, but I know they'll definitely appeal it and push back."

You think you can just come here in our parish and offer a great service to our residents? Not if I have anything to say about it!!

Had a shitty Uber experience in Houston. Destination was on the same road we were picked up on, only 9 blocks away. We drove in an exact circle for 25 minutes while the driver was asking me directions and if I could look up directions on my phone. Pathetic

Why didn't you just input the destination on your phone before he for there?

$9 ride from downtown Nashville this past weekend in a 2011 BMW 5 series. Picked us up in 3 mins and gave me a free water.

See I can play the judge-a-company-by-one-experience-game too.

Sounds like polypusher is an idiot.

It took you 25 minutes to punch destination that was 9 blocks away on the same road on your phone?

The response on the Northshore was the complete opposite:

quote:

"This service allows our residents choices when they need alternative transportation options, whether it's for a ride to work, or a date night out," St. Tammany Parish President Patricia Brister said in a statement.

quote:

Parish officials said Uber will help provide a solution to the limited number of taxis services on the Northshore. They added the service will give residents a "new type of transportation" for everyday activities.

Response on the Southshore:

quote:

"Through this illegal enterprise, the citizens of Jefferson Parish are being placed at risk as Uber drivers operate with neither a Certificate of Public Necessity and Convenience nor a taxicab permit," said Jefferson Parish attorney Deborah Foshee in the cease and desist order

I see reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. I said the experience was shitty, not necessarily the entire company. I assumed she knew where she was going, didn't look it up on the phone until frustration set in when she obviously didn't know where she was going, dumbfrick. Lesson learned, you assume people can do their jobs, that's why I get drunk and call people to bring me places.

I see anger is your strong suit.

You're the dumbarse who sat in a car going in circles for 25 minutes because you were unable to punch in an address 9 blocks away on your phone.

Congrats on your stupidity.
