Anyone have any less known tips on selling a shotgun?

I have an older Remington Magnum Wingmaster model 870, 12 gauge with a 3" chamber, and 29" barrel. I was curious as to how much I could sell it for and from what I've seen online the prices are all over the place. It's fairly used and has a few dings in the wood but overall is in pretty good shape. I've seen similar condition/quality ones being sold for over $600 and some for as low as $200. Am I missing something here or do people just throw out numbers?

The more expensive ones are probably Wingmasters. It's a higher grade 870 with nicer finishes.

post an ad on a message board full of hunters where selling things isn't allowed, but form it in a question so it won't get whacked.

Most probably throw out numbers. Can probably find one of those valuation guides at a bookstore and get a good idea of what it might be worth and what it might go for.

Eta: Sight unseen, I'd estimate it to be in $300 range. I come across quite a few used ones in pawn shops.

no offense but its not like you have a rare or highly in demand shotgun there...just list it on LA sportsman, or armslist, or gunbroker
its a $300- 500 shotgun depending on if you find someone who really wants it

eta: you should probably post your email address in case people aren't comfortable giving certain advice on a board for all to see. Some of these OB like to keep their secrets just that.

$600 for a used Wingmaster without the Rem-choke is high for anything other than a MINT gun with some special significance. A used 3" wingmaster with a fixed choke barrel is worth no more than $300 from what I've seen. I would list at $350 and go from there.

$300-350. I bought one in what sounds like better shape then yours for $350 a year or two ago. 30" fixed full.
