Could guys like Red Grange start in the NFL today. Could Babe Ruth start on a baseball team today, etc. You get the gist. I say no.

No.
advances in nutrition and the level of competition are totally different.
Some could compete, but not dominate by any means.

Those guys did not workout or do any conditioning.babe Ruth wouldn't even know the pitch had passed him by.

Yes, Babe Ruth could play today.

If Babe Ruth was given the same advantages as modern athletes, yes.
Red Grange, I seriously doubt it.

Ruth used bats up to 54 ounces and played in parks that are bigger than today's parks. He'd do fine

Any baseball player from a past era who "dominated" during there playing years could certainly play today, but probably would be average to low level by today's standards.
Football, because of the size and speed of today's athletes would dominate players from the 60's.

Translated for their respective eras to today? Not a chance.
But, for sake of debate, there's no reason to say that they wouldn't be a the top of today's game had they been born in a different era. If that makes sense.

Absolutely not. For one thing, an entire race of people were excluded in Ruth's day. For that matter, a couple of races were excluded. Strictly based on the fact that Ruth wasn't even playing against the best athletes of his OWN day, as far as I'm concerned, removes him from the conversation of could he compete against the best athletes 4 score years later.
Think Ruth would have put up big numbers against Mariano Rivera? Swatted home runs off of Fernando Valenzuela? Or would ol' Harold Grange do a bunch of ghostly galloping over Lawrence Taylor? Pffft. Guys like Taylor, Ronnie Lott, or Dirty 30 himself would sent him back to the sidelines in tears.
I've heard it said that Billy Cannon could have played in today's game. That he was as big, fast, and strong as the running backs of today. Having been born in a time that precluded me from seeing him play - and it's the same way with those mentioned in the thread title - I honestly can't give an opinion worth much. I will say though I'd find it hard to believe that ANY of the old legends would have been as good as they were had everyone been allowed to play. Not because I'm a race apologist though. It's because the basic laws of math say so.
