I disagree with most in here. There is a reason why Babe Ruth was great. He had natural abilities unparalleled by most in his era. He could have excelled with the training and conditioning of today's baseball player: black, white,Puerto Rican etc. He had a legit arm and a natural swing which is needed but a natural talent that made him great. Football players may be a different story due to most needing natural size and speed to excel in today's game.

It would be more difficult for football and in those cases I usually imagine if they were contemporaries of players today. For instance, if Red Grange were born in say 1987 and had the same access to performance knowledge as athletes today, would he be able to play? He was 6'0" and 180 during his day so would better nutrition have put on more muscle? Probably. He might be a back up strong safety these days.

Baseball on the other hand is easier. Its not a contact sport reliant on size and speed. Yes, old Ruth and a modern Ruth could easily play in today's MLB.

In any era. He was a freak. One of the top pitchers, until he proved too valuable to be an everyday player as a hitter.

And this includes Michael Jordan in the NBA. He would average at most ten points a game in today's league.

Think Ruth would have put up big numbers against Mariano Rivera? Swatted home runs off of Fernando Valenzuela?

Who had a chance to put up big numbers against Rivera? He's do as well as anyone did against him. Valenzuela? Why not?

The better question is, would he put up big numbers against the likes of Rick Porcello, Phil Hughes, Anibal Sanchez, Taijuan Walker and Drew Hutchison? Absolutely.

The white man gets no love in these threads. White men can jump and run fast but I think whites don't believe that their very existence to be rich and famous lies in being able to hit a baseball, run over people, run a 4.2 forty, etc. Some cultures that is what a majority believe will get them somewhere. That is not being racist that is the truth. People forget most of our special forces are composed of white guys that if allowed to show what they could do would open the eyes of a few people.

OP, you should be banned for life. Your thread is so stupid, I am not getting back on the O-T again.

sports and politics for me. If you posted this on the more sports board where it belongs, you would be chemically castrated by the regulars.

I can see Ty Cobb or Lou Gehrig, just to name two, making it in professional baseball today if they trained and ate like players do today.

Do Pablo Sandoval and Prince Fielder watch what they eat and train?

Babe Ruth would still be a boss today. Imagine if Babe had physical fitness?

He swung a much heavier bat, in bigger parks, with a buzz from the night before and still dominated. his hand eye coordination is about as elite as it gets.

only if he were raised in the same era and assuming the same training, nutrition, etc. Most definitely.

Agreed. I doubt he'd hit over .250.
