Just saw this thread and it brought back some memories, lol. Some of these names only the older crowd might remember -

Agree with Roider, and with Rinks too. He had this very understated, sarcastic sense of humor I really liked. Class was no slam dunk but he was a superb teacher as well. He used to hang out at that coffee shop on Highland, just at the south end of campus (can't remember the name or if it's even still there)

Robert Chumbley, French. Yale dude. Kind of geeky but very personable and would go the extra mile for you if you were confused.

Dr. Staats in banking. Surprised he hasn't been mentioned. Absolutely wonderful guy and funny as hell. Told some awesome stories (the little kid asking for some Uranium 235 jumps to mind).

Also had a tall, attractive redhead for ACCT 3021 (can't remember her name but she was from Centenary). Very nice and a great teacher as well, which I sorely needed after the shitshow I had in Acct II.

Two I hated? Sal Profeta in Chemistry I comes to mind. Arrogant, self-important dick.

Also, Bob Blomeyer in investments was a real piece of work. Dude was brilliant but had the personality of a Marine DI.

Favorite Professor: Keith Gonthier.

I know a lot of people who absolutely hated him.

His class was tough, but Mechanical Engineering wasn't ever supposed to be easy. I had actually dropped thermo before taking it with him. Tutors told me that I should stick with the class, because he was teaching it the next semester and it would be 10x's worse. His tests were in fact way more than 10 times as difficult, but I ended up with an A. Of course I worked harder, but he really nailed it when it came to explaining the material. And he organized his lectures to get the point across. If you had a question, it was usually answered in the next thing he wrote on the board. He knew the material and he knew what students were going to have trouble with. Thermo was an every day class. Even with that, if he saw students were having trouble, he was willing to have even more classroom hours. He basically tutored the entire class several times at night by opening a classroom and just answering questions for an hour and a half.

He wasn't like the nicest guy ever or anything. I don't know if I ever talked to him one on one other than a question here or there. He just taught exactly how I learned. As opposed to Harris Wong whose tests were just as difficult as Gonthier's, but he was a shitty professor who didn't care if you didn't pass.

Roussell wasn't my favorite, but he was a good professor and has passion for Econ. Like someone else said, he made the subject really interesting and he prepared you really well for the final. He was always open to help me as much as he could in his office if I didn't understand something.

I agree, he cares about his students a lot and he is very interesting to talk to outside of class

Agreed about both. I had Harris Wong the first semester he taught Fluids again (hadn't taught it in 20+ years or so he said) and on the first day of class he said something like "I've heard the department has gotten a little soft on Fluids, I am going to teach it the way I want and I don't care how many people fail". Needless to say over 75% of the class failed.

My roommate had Gonthier for thermo and said he was tough as hell but a really good teacher when it comes to the material.

Honorary least favorite for Dr. Raman for stealing someone else's shite, putting it in his own self published book and teaching it to us. Also Dr. Sinclair because he was a royal douche to everyone in senior design.

I liked him. Thought his glass was pretty interesting. He was definitely a bit of a dick, but his enthusiasm for the subject kept me interesting in that early morning class. And I thought his tests were pretty fair.

The tests weren't an issue it was just his personality. Comparing him to anyone in the Poli Sci department is like night and day.

If you look at the formatting of the book, it appears he just typed it up in Word and they printed it out in that format. He cites Wikipedia in a few spots if I remember correctly. His class was just standing in front of everyone talking about different objects and what a good material would be for them. He would just ramble "bicycle sprockets would best be comprised of carburized steel, high temperature turbine blades could possibly be made of ceramic materials, eutectic". Dude just rambled. Then you had a test and hopefully you remembered on of those random facts and could make an analysis chart that chose that material.

Exactly! I believe he actually taught from the Word version of the book a few times. His book is basically a carbon copy of a materials selection book written by Ashby. Even the dumbass matrix system he made us do.

A lot of the answers for worst here are in Econ, and part of that is because Econ is one of those subjects that some students simply cant grasp.
As for Rousell and Stahl, I actually liked both of them but I can see how they could easily rub some people the wrong way. At least they spoke English in an understandable manner, which is more than I can say about a lot of teachers in that department.

Anyone ever have an ECON teacher named (I think) Chris Pappageorgiou? He was probably the only good foreign-born teacher I ever had at LSU. Spoke well, good guy.

I loved Econ. I think Rousell and Stahl were specifically 2 professors that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

I liked the other Econ teachers I took--Teddy Palivos and some Turkish lady whose name escapes me. I like Rousell personally and did fine in his class. I couldn't stand Stahl.

Favorite - Dr. Al-Rub taught Strength of materials. After every test he would appoint a "sultan of the class"

Worst was Harris Wong- taught thermo. That dude has no soul. Consistently loved to fail majority of class, no curve.

I think these would be my exact choices also. Al Rub was such a boss. King of MoM reporting in.

Wong was such a horrible teacher. This dude would walk into class, turn his back on the auditorium and just write notes on the board for 1.5 hrs, not field any questions, and then give impossible homework and tests. I scored about a 15% on the first test in Thermo and I had pages and pages of work done. Worst class of my life.

No it's the same Karam that everyone is talking about being their favorite teacher. Like 55, thin and is soft soft a breeze would blow him over.
