Never been to Europe. All I know about are the Louvre, The d'Orsay, the catacombs, and the tower. Going to be there 5 days. Help, please.

My sister nearly got hit by a full can of beer somebody threw from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Stay safe.

Went a few Augusts ago.. Moulin Rouge. There is also a lot of shopping if you're into that type of thing.
ETA: River cruise. Honestly I was in Paris for 3 days and saw the Eiffel Tower on 10 separate occasions. Avoid that if you can.

Nose plugs
Those folks smell rather foul when it's hot over there

Aside from the Louvre, Notre Dame, etc:
Go to Versailles.
Drink a lot of wine.
Take a day trip by train. Brussels, Lyon, Mont St. Michel, Normandy or overnight to Munich (and back again overnight).

I'll be there for 9 days starting on 6/4. If you resurface this, I can help report back.

Be prepared for lines long as frick at the Catacombs. Don't do all of the touristy stuff if you only have five days. You'll spend too much time in line.
If you have to go up the Eiffel Tower, you don't need to pay the exorbitant fee to go all the way to the top. The views from halfway up are nearly as good.
If you have to go to the Louvre, forget about the Mona Lisa unless you want to fight your way through hundreds of Asian tourists.
If you have to go to Versailles... in July, just don't.
Drink tons of wine. Even the house wine at restaurants is good.
Take a bottle, or three, of wine over to the Eiffel Tower at night and chill out on the Champ de Mars whilst drinking said wine.
If people approach you and try to tie strings on your arms, or tell you that you dropped a ring, ignore them and walk the other way.
Don't drive. Take the metro or walk. We only stay in the 7e so most stuff is central, but the metro will take you within a couple of blocks of anywhere you want to go, and it's fairly cheap.
Wander the neighborhoods. Drink and eat where the locals drink and eat. Costs less and the food is better.
Check out Montmartre. So many awesome shops and artists there below Sacre Coeur.

Know this, many of the hotels in Paris are not air conditioned. If I were going that time of the year I would make sure that mine is.

Used to live in France. Paris is a huge city with lots to do. Is there anything in particular you're interested in doing? Museums, shopping, etc?
You can easily spend 5 days walking through the louvre and musee d'orsay.
But if you just want a tour of Paris, I'd suggest: the louvre, stopping at trocadero to see the Eiffel Tower, having a picnic on the champ de mars(field in front of the tower), strolling down the champs élysées to see the arc de triomphe and lots of ither things along the street, Versailles, Montmartre, Luxembourg gardens, river cruise at night, shopping in the Marais, notre dame, place de la Concorde(the coolest metro stop in Paris), picnic in Tuilerie gardens(close to the louvre and just off rue champs élysées, scare coure(in Montmartre)... That should be enough for 5 days

Whatever you do, don't doodle any drawings of Mohammed while you're there.

I love Paris. When local's find out you're from Nola they're awesome to you. I agree about the museum pass. Take the train to Versailles. Bring wine. Rent a golf cart and wander around. I had an absolute blast doing that. I did a lunch cruise thing that I wasn't sure about but it turned out to be great. The food was good and the wine flowed freely. I also did a bike tour the first day that was great for orientating myself around the first time I went. Don't dress like a tourist. Wrap the wine you bring back carefully. Eat ice cream at Berthillon and wander around the Ile de la Citi. I would absolutely not do the Moulin Rouge. It's full of tourists by the bus load. A woman gets in a tank full of water mostly naked with a giant snake. I'm not into no shoulder having creatures. But to each their own. Food is a whole other topic.

Paris In July: Got Any Suggestions?
This is the worst time of year to go. (I have been in July)
It will be hot as HELL as the lines are LONG for everything.
It will take a long time to get into Versailles and the Louvre (hour or more in line for both) but do both because it's worth it.
Definitely go to the Arc de Triomphe and the Hotel des Invalides (esp. to see Napoleon's tomb).
Musee d'Orsay is excellent too. Do Notre Dame and the Catacombs.
It doesnt get dark until like 10pm in paris in the summer.
They seem to hate AC- and a lot of people eat outside in front of the restaurants/cafes.
Get some Vietnamese food- it is excellent in Paris.
Walk the steps at Montmartre- and there are lots of places to eat and shop around there.

Bring an air conditioner.

I am leaving for six days on Tuesday. Going for the French Open, but that's on our itinerary for only one day (going to the men's semi-final matches).
We have a full schedule planned out, mostly designed around the smaller musuems and eating/drinking at local spots. We are planning on doing the Catacombs and taking the Fat Tire bike tour. We are relying pretty heavily on Rick Steve's guide and we will be taking two of his self guided tours (Historic walk and Champs-Elysees walk). Against my judgement, she insists on the Louvre as she has been twice and loved it. We will definitely be buying our tickets in advance to skip the lines. Apparently you can buy all your advance tickets for the museums at the airport as soon as you arrive.
We are passing on Versailles in favor of a day trip to Reims to drink champagne. Also lots of WWI and WWII history there. Eiffel Tower is not in the cards unless we can get our hands on an advance pass, which aren't the easiest to get. I don't know the details surrounding those passes.
I'm looking forward to it. First time to Europe for me, she has been probably a half dozen times all over.

Wear a Charlie Hebdo t-shirt and a yarmulke, walk down the street and enjoy everything that Paris has to offer the intrepid traveler. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)
