re: La'el Collins reportedly signing with Cowboys

I hope Collins is cleared, but this is what worries me:
Collin's is a great talent and several NFL teams wanted him. They spent a good deal of time and money getting inside info (these guys are smart pros) from investigators, police, and others close to this situation and decided not to touch him, even in late draft rounds. They didn't just back away because of rumors. They got way more facts than any poster in this thread has and backed off.

Are you insinuating that pro teams bribed the BRPD?

I get the sarcasm... I'm not saying the cops are lying. I'm saying it doesn't mean as much as what everyone thinks/wants it to mean. It almost means nothing in this situation.
For about 10 years now cops have learned that the less info they give out in some instances, the more success they'll have with investigations. Naming suspects, talking about evidence, giving timelines, etc. have all become huge no-no's because they can make a cop's job more difficult.
As a simple example, if an investigator puts out a name or tries to get in touch with someone and calls them a "suspect", they are more likely to be less cooperative. But if someone is just called in for questioning or labeled a POI, then they are often less defensive. I'm not saying that's what's happening here in that La'el is a "suspect" underneath it all. Just that what the police say during an investigation has very little value.

Would it shock you if they did?

If 32 teams know something, there's a 100% chance it would have been leaked.

It definitely would surprise me. No need to risk that much for a franchise over one potential player.

He is certainly suspect, though.

They backed away because the information they could get was unclear. Sean Payton said as much.

By your own logic the right reply should've been no comment.

You realize we live in a society now that is social media obsessed and the media hit a team would take on this would be pretty substantial even if the guy is innocent right? This isn't the 90's and early 2000's when teams can have murderers on their teams and let the legal system work it out.
Hell, you just had an NFL player convicted of one murder and on trial for two more. On top of that, you have numerous domestic and physical abuse issues around the league, and you think that their even willing to take on a guy with this type of media baggage?
It sucks for La'el if he's innocent, but this is the world today because of idiots on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and message boards that need to know everything all the time and want to be known.

By my own logic the police don't want anyone feeling like a suspect. They don't want anyone they talk to to feel attacked. They want people to cooperate.
Usually, the only time suspects names are released is because the police are looking for them and might need to publics help or to warn the public of a possible danger.

Not necessarily. But I think it was probably the fact that the way he acted and responded made him look like he at least was hiding something even if he wasn't. With all the domestic dispute stuff the NFL has had lately, they want to stay far away.

LOL, so now the NFL has solved the case even before the BRPD has. Awesome. This is the same NFL that couldn't get a video tape for the Ray Rice fiasco though, right?
Or is it more plausible that they backed away because of the PR nightmare it would cause if he were to be arrested down the line. I know its not as sexy of a story but sounds more realistic to me.

I was thinking the same thing.

makes you wonder theoretically speaking what's the line on type of action a player is deemed associated with for all 32 teams to pass on drafting a player.
A rape allegation?
A bad domestic violence issue?
