Let's talk generator operation at night

Running my generator to keep my food from spoiling. Hey, I have a good bit of meat and other assorted perishables I would rather not waste. I just got home late so I didn't get to crank it up till about 10pm. What are your thoughts in running this all night? It's pretty loud. Understandable in this situation?

Go for it
Just be careful about carbon monoxide poisoning

Let it run. If anyone complains tell them you'll gladly run an extension cord from their house.

You will have to wake up to put gas in it. I remember taking generator fill up turns during Rita.

Filling the fricker up is not my concern. I just live around some cranky old neighbors. Just trying to understand the protocol here.
My "compromise" is that I am going to only run it for a bit here and there just to cool the food down. I'll crank it back up at 5am or so.

You can leave your fridge/freezer off for a few hours and its fine. Probably 1 hour on/3 or 4 off your food will be good

What we have done in the past during hurricanes is fill the generator up before going to sleep and running the fridge/freezer and fans/window unit. It would go out around 3 or so and just leave it off until getting up. Room was cooled enough and no one is opening the fridge so it's staying cool.

Mine runs night and day until the power comes back. You're fine.

The protocol is that whenever the power is out, you run your generator however you see fit. When the power comes back on, turn that racket off.

Just run it. If a neighbor complains say sorry give them a cold beer and it will be fine

You may consider using those carpentry skills you picked up at Tulane and make a sound box. Just make sure you have a forced air fan for cooling and engine air intake.
Some have tried adding auto mufflers to the exhaust system, but that could cause problems with designed engine back pressure. In other words, if you do this get the biggest muffler you can find.

FWIW, a freezer will be good for about 48 hours if you keep it closed. Longer if you keep some dry ice in there.

If you have ice blocks in the fridge, it will last for a days, literally. I have a couple 2-gallon buckets that I throw in there to keep it cold. A couple 15 pound solid blocks of ice would last through way beyond the night, and it will cool again when you run it during the day. You could keep this up indefinitely while you have fuel. Freezers are more efficient then you think. Heck, an ice chest would last through the night easily with ice blocks.
I've dumped regular cheap ice chests days after a party and still had a ton of ice in it. It's all about the volume of ice you have in there. You can also toss a blanket or sleeping bag over the whole ice chest when you sleep at night. No problem.

Run it. Been running mine from noon yesterday. Hot coffee this morning.

If anyone can hear your generator running, it's because they don't have one of their own. Jealousy is a terrible thing... You bought the damn thing, let it eat.
