Good ways to end "Hack-a-Shaq"...

Why couldn't the coach have the option to "decline" free throws for intentional off-ball fouls, and can opt to take the ball out.
This changes nothing in regards to stopping the clock at the end of games by fouling, because those are ON-BALL fouls, and the person who was fouled with the ball would have to shoot free throws like always.
Seems like a pretty simple way to get rid of intentionally fouling bad free throw shooters.

Fukk that. Make your GD free throws. Simple. Changing the landscape of the game because DeAndre Jordan can't make a FT is just retarded.

The best and only way to fix it would be to make your damn free throws. I don't understand why they want to "fix" this strategy. If they would just practice free throws, this would not be a problem. I mean shite, it's their only job to play basketball and practice. Why not spend some time on it, instead of hitting the club, beating women, smoking the chronic, etc.....

Make your damn free throws or don't play a player who can't.

I'm torn on this issue. A big part of me says "make your free throws and this isn't a problem." But when the hack a shaq strategy is used, it brings the game to a screeching halt and really hurts the viewing product.
I propose an off ball foul, while in the penalty should result in the offensive team getting a free throw and the ball back, and the offensive team is allowed to pick who shoots the throw. It's basically a 1 point penalty and a side out.

Three-to-make-two for all off-the-ball fouls.

Not reading 8 pages, so this might have been mentioned already...
I've always thought there should be a foul limit under 2 or 3 minutes. If you commit more than 5 fouls or whatever, then they turn into 2 shots and the ball.

Clicked on this thread hoping to see realistic ideas of how they could end this.
Instead get 8 pages of arguing about whether or not DeAndre Jordan could be an 80% FT shooter if he just practiced a little more.

There is no need to change the rule, fouling and free throws are a HUGE part of the game. As a Rockets fan you should know that.

Intentional fouls are supposed to be a technical.
In reality, teams just don't make it obvious that they meant to foul. They're just more aggressive trying to steal the ball because the cost of a defensive foul is a lot lower when you're behind late in the game. If a foul happens, so be it--it stops the clock and gives you the ball back, and if you're lucky you get the steal and don't give up the points.

2 shots and the ball for intentionally fouling off the ball

I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with this change. It is no different than football coaches declining penalties.
Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to adding the option to decline free throws at any time in the game, including on-ball fouls at the end of the game. It would do a wonder for the game IMO. It is frustrating that 45 minutes of the game are played in an epic fashion, and the other 3 minutes feature some of the worst entertainment I've ever seen.

They do it because Shaq and others like him are horrible free throw shooters, even though they play basketball for a living.

More rules isn't the answer.

Players who can make their FTs don't get fouled as much. It is that simple.

I hate the hack a shaq as much as anyone but are we really going to change the rules of the game to players who can't hit a fundamental shot?
Its a big of threat to the integrity of the game as hack a shaq, if not more.

Its not changing the landscape of the game... the game was never meant to be like this. It's a loophole.
Its not a loophole if players hit the free throws. The game was supposed to make it easier when a player is fouled and goes to the line, hence the free shot from relatively short distance.

Let's protect the players who can't make the simplest shot in basketball. Awesome
If the NBA wants to do something to make the game more entertaining, start giving out game suspensions for flagrant flopping

I'm not reading this entire thread but what's the consensus on calling obvious off the ball fouls intentional fouls. 1 Ft plus the ball.
Is that not what hack a shaq is essentially...an intentional foul?

To me, the MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR flaw in basketball is that "fouling" can be used as a POSITIVE strategy.
It is akin to letting teams commit penalties in football in order to stop the clock but where the negative of the penalty is only a maybe.
It's always been of the stupidest aspects of basketball.
Frnakly, I love to watch basketball except for the last 5 minutes. Then, it degrades into being one of the dumbest team sports ever invented.
A foul is by definition "breaking the rules". Breaking the rules, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should afford a team an advantage.
