SIAP ( I searched, didnt see anything). Another example of great restraint by a LEO who, IMO, would have been completely justified in shooting this suspect. I don't see why any cop wouldn't want a body cam.

Because people doing their jobs correctly doesn't stir up the masses to talk about what evil scum LEO are. Trust me, next time a policeman oversteps his bounds and does something he's not supposed to, it'll be right here on the front page.

There's already like a 5 or 6pg thread on it.

An armed person suspected of killing 2 people already charges you and you don't pull the trigger... what an idiot.

Agreed. I probably would have shot him and and wouldn't have complained if this guy had.
I do think what he did though reflected the right mentality. He would prefer to avoid shooting at nearly unless absolutely forced.
More cops need that attitude. Some clearly do not.

The problem with this incident is everyone saying the officer "did the right thing." You can say that NOW but what if the guy had a gun AS HE CLAIMED and shot the officer dead? Then what would everyone be saying? This officer rolled the dice with his own life and got lucky. The fact is that once the guy got close and put his hand in his pocket, the best case scenario for the officer would be a tie if the guy pulls a gun. FYI, I consider a tie a big loss in a gunfight.
Some assholes need shooting, this guy and Michael Brown, and some don't. But holding this particular incident up as an example is wrong.

I disagree. The officer handled it great.
You shoot when you believe your life is in danger and that is your best option not just because you can get away with it legally.

All of these ridiculous police shootings and bad pub will have some good officers hesitating and getting killed for it. It's a sad cycle.

Yes. But you are operating 100% on hindsight. Given the facts IN THAT MOMENT, he should have defended himself. BTW, that is the legal standard, what would a reasonable person do given the circumstances at that moment? The applicable SCOTUS decision actually excludes hindsight from the equation.

No I'm operating on the fact that the officer never felt that his life was threatened enough to fire.
The guy never pulled a weapon so there is no reason to shoot him.
If anything I would have holster ed and taken the guy down as he came at me.

Never felt threatened?
If the guy actually makes it to the officer, well then it's a struggle over who can control the weapon.
There was a gun in play.
If a guy is charging an officer with the officers gun out, I don't really know how that wouldn't be a threat towards the officers life.
The bad guy at that point is saying I'm gonna roll the dice and take a chance.

The only gun out is the officers.
As long as the guys hands are empty the officer could have stood his ground and took the Guy down.
I don't see any reason to take lethal force until the violator pulls a weapon.
The only thing I would have rather seen is the officer stand his ground and take the guy down or instead of moving backward he should have moved around his unit using his car as a barrier.
