M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village" is actually a solid movie

I happen to think "The Village" is one of his better movies. I'm a fan of period pieces, especially films about the 1800s.

This movie pulled off being a period piece and a contemporary thriller at the same time. The plot holes don't matter to me. It's a well acted movie with an interesting premise that oozes creativity that is missing from most movies these days.

The soundtrack is beautiful. I'd rate it almost as high as the scores from Braveheart and Last of the Mohicans.

This movie reminds me of a Christopher Nolan film. I wonder how people would perceive this movie is Christopher Nolan's name was attached to it rather than M. Night?

If you attached Christopher Nolan's name to "The Village", it suddenly leaps from unjustified bottom of the barrel to GOAT.

It's the Chris Nolan effect combined with the lingering M. Night Shyamalan curse. Makes me wonder if at some point Nolan will experience a sudden reversal of fortune like M. Night. Don't forget that at one point M. Night used to be Hollywoods golden boy.

Note sure if trolling or not, but I've never quite understood the hate for this movie. I've always attributed it partly to this possibly being the movie where Shyamalan's need to have a "twist" in each movie kind of jumped the shark. That being said, while I don't think it's a "need to watch," I enjoyed it.

Its sad when people go to see a M. Night Shyamalan film and hate it because its a M. Night Shyyamalan film.

The "twist" was revealed way too early in the movie and then it sputtered to the end.

Next to the Sixth Sense, that was M. Night Shyamalan's greatest twist IMO at the end.

I'm actually not trolling. I really like The Village. I like the idea behind it even though there are clear plot holes. It's interesting enough and filmed well enough that I don't care about the holes.

It just works.

In my opinion, I like it better than Sixth Sense.

The Village, Signs, and Unbreakable are his best...IMO.

I made this thread five years ago actually.

I agree with you big time (except for the Nolan part ). People love to hate on this one, and I hav no idea why. There are also people who say that the ending was given away early on in the movie, but I've never heard a good explanation that I can remember (even went back and forth with lsu9193969700 in my thread but he never answered the question...he says that halfway through the movie, they tell us the exact year).

I think it's a very good movie. I feel like a lot of hate stems from the ending, but even aside from the end, it's a very good thriller, almost horror, movie.

Nailed it.

Exactly.

It receives a lot of hate simply because M. Night's name is attached.

There's a difference between liking a movie and saying it would be the GOAT if Nolan's name replaced Shyamalan's.

How did it do that exactly? What does the movie being set in present time have to do with anything, or how does that take away from it?

Why..because it's not PC?

Also, DV:

Explain how please.

I thought it was a pretty decent movie, not great but not terrible either. I'll watch it occasionally when its on TV.

I've always liked The Village, had an interesting premise and some genuinely creepy/scary parts.
