I think Vegas is pretty dang fun if you go with a group of friends. Went for a weekend trip to Los Angeles and on the morning of the last day we decided, "what the hell, let's go to Vegas". Sidetracked to the Bellagio, we all lost money, ate and drank a bit, headed south and got back to Phoenix. One of the most random, but fun trips I've ever had. If we had had no money, yes it's definitely an overrated city.

Vegas is hands down the GOAT vacation for any young adult.

Las Vegas is probably the worst place in the world, except that Reno exists. After that, based on "omg so amazing u has to go thar", the most overrated cities are:
Tokyo: It's so fricking busy and weird that you essentially have to plan every step of the trip. Any trip that requires meticulous planning and a strict schedule isn't just not fun, it's abysmal.
Jerusalem: What a kitchy, touristy, self-exploitative place. Jerusalem is basically religious Disney World, if Disney World had nothing fun and only dreary shite.
Every other important city in the world has something worth doing. Israel has managed to make the entire country a tourist trap, and everywhere that anyone goes in Japan expecting something interesting is basically shite. These are toilets.

I have lived in two of those cities and would agree.

Does Las Vegas really have anything going for it outside of the glitz and the glamour? Take away the casinos and the strip clubs and the only thing left is a big desert.
I had a good time in Vegas, but we also saw the canyons in utah on a side trip. I had way more fun doing that.

I agree about L.A., only been once, around 2000 or so, even at that time thought, "looks like it was nice in the 60's.
seemed like the infrastructure was run down and of course the sky was brown (was summer)

I can see Las Vegas and Paris being ranked....but not New York or London.
I guess this list must be for overrated cities that are economically or culturally significant. That would explain why a third world shite hole like New Orleans isn't on there.

1. Miami - just wasn't for me but I'm no OT baller
2. LA - nice weather but again, not for me.
3. Austin - tries to hard to be different.
4. London - too busy and into themselves
I liked NY, Prague, Chicago, Athens, San Antonio, Seattle, Sydney, Auckland, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Venice, Florence, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Jerusalem.
I haven't been to Vegas, Boston, DC, or Santa Fe and they are on my to do list.
Big cities that sucked IMO were Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Frankfurt, and Detroit.

NOLA. Fun place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Vegas is as fun as you make it. That being said, this article was just an opportunity for a New Yorker to talk about New York and how great she thinks it is even though it's a dump

yep
Miami would get my vote. No way should Vegas or New York be on this list, Vegas is exactly what it's known for, gambling and partying. New York is arguably the greatest city in the world. Although I live in LA and love it here, I can see why from a tourist standpoint Los Angeles is overrated, I'm not sure why anyone would vacation here to be honest.
No way is New Orleans overrated, it's kind of a mix of New York and Las Vegas, great history/culture and crazy partying on bourbon street. New Orleans surpassed my expectations when I visited.

Miami blows.
New money douche bags driving around in leased neon sports cars with melanoma causing tans.
I really can't stand that place.
I actually think the heavy Cuban areas are the only saving grace. Great food and music. The heavy douche-American areas like South Beach though are insufferable.

I agree with all of this.

Vegas is terrible. I haven't been to many of the others.

I'm going to Vegas for the first time ever in two weeks (not counting their nasty arse airport). Looking forward to it.
