A friend of mine is thinking about renting a house in the Freetown neighborhood of Lafayette. I don't really know anything about Laffy, so can someone give me some info on it? What's the neighborhood like? Is it safe?

Why are you so concerned about this area if its "for a friend?"

It's named after the capital of Liberia, so I'd say take that for what it's worth

Kinda hipsterish, but it's close to downtown and some decent food options. It used to be kinda rough, but I think they've been cleaning it up here recently.

I'd live there for sure.

Definitely a little hipster-ish, but you can walk to music venues like Blue Moon & Artmosphere.

Anyone who tells you it's not safe either hasn't been there in the last 20 years or is just stupid as hell.

It's a little hipster community. It's not River Ranch but they have cool houses and you can walk to bars and shite. I wouldn't call it the safest spot in town. It borders with some pretty shitty spots.

If the OT has found out about freetown that means it's not cool anymore.

Freetown neighborhood of Lafayette.

That's a really bad idea, unless your "friend" is a little more on the "gangsta" side.......

I lived there for 3 and a half years. I loved it so much. The only reason we moved is because we found the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood. I miss that neighborhood though. It's got a perfect location to festivals, parades, etc.

We always felt safe. There was a lot of pedestrian traffic where I lived but it was never scary.

Death will surely be the outcome if your friend moves to Freetown.

It's a lot like the Flower Streets area in BR, only bigger and less Asians.

Had a friend that lived in that area. Had the antenna stolen from their vehicle twice (dafuq?), and another buddy had his bike stolen off the porch 10 minutes after he had just rolled up. I would park in a way that I could see my truck from the window, and just posted up like Russell Crowe the entire time I was there.
