Islam, Martyrs and Virgins

No disrespect intended but I'm having a difficult time understanding why Allah or the Supreme diety would offer up virgins for someone who kills themself furthering that cause. Where do these virgins come from? What happens to female martyrs? Some translations seem to promise perpetual erections and virgins with full breasts and no body hair except on their head and eyebrows. It all sounds ludicrous and conceived by some sexually repressed teenager, but apparently these extremists are willing to die for the opportunity. It makes for some interesting research, to be sure.

Where do the virgins come from? Are they created just for that dude's afterlife? Do they stay virgins? Is the virginity optional? Could a dude be like "I'll pass on that. I'd rather have a handful of experienced hags"?

I'd personally prefer to be rewarded with some women who know what they're doing in the bedroom, not a bunch of virgins.
