Nice hyperbole.
The idea that this player is a representative of his team and school isn't a difficult one to figure out. It has nothing to do with being a criminal.
If he was the student body president, or a team captain, I would totally revoke those positions, but let's not pretend that there aren't athletes who make far worse mistakes during and before college that continue playing because the stories aren't in the media.
Lots of players who don't represent their teams well who still get to play.

Why are people making this about some bigger picture society issue. The actual message of his tweet is perfectly reasonable.
You replace slut with "chick" no one would give half a turd. But calling a 13 year old girl a slut is just not acceptable behavior. If this guy has a decent father I am positive he's happy his son got kicked off and will learn his lesson the hard way.

To be fair, I said in my OP that I thought the tweet was fine if you replaced "slut" with "girl" and was also blasted for that. So you're assuming too much here.

That's completely arbitrary...being part of an organization and held to a certain standard isn't limited to its leadership.

...I mean, I guess you could argue that. Yeah, people get away with stuff, things get swept under the rug, that's not a precedent I would follow in my decision-making.

But that's what schools and organizations do. They sweep it under the rug unless the media grabs onto it and pressures them to do something big. I hate that.

Exactly and then they have to out on their own faje outrage to appease everyone and theirs.

You would have never in a million years seen this kids tweet if hadn't used the word slut. There is nothing unreasonable about his opinion

Dude. I agree. But go to page one. Someone asked if I am sexist or racist?

the ball player is a fricking moron
she's what, 13? and he calls her a slut. Twitter is the cesspool of stupid.

Twitter also has tons of smart stuff on it too. It's a pretty nice microcosm of our society in all honesty.
A reporter yesterday posted the quote from Dirk yesterday, something like, "I'm proud of the things he's overcome to have a great career, injuries, being white, unathletic."
Some of the responses on Twitter were people talking about how they can't believe people still have the audacity to call Nash unathletic just because he's white.
It was his former teammate and friend making a joke, but people had to find something to bitch about.

Thats because he brought up race and even though we claim to celebrate diversity if you point out we are different than you are racist.

I feel like Martin Luther King, Jr. would be shocked at the media. If he just showed up right now, he would think he was being pranked when he turned on the news.
At some point, progress went off the rails. We are in a much better place than we were in the 50s, but we act like it's much worse.
The United States is one of the least racist countries by far, and we act like we are one of the worst. The self-loathing of this country as a whole is very odd to me.

I'd love for people to go live in 95% of the other countries in this world. It would be hilarious to see.

Dude made a dumbass comment trying to get a laugh and didn't think anyone outside of his friends would who follow him would care. Not smart but stupid to kick him off the team for it.

What if a 13 year old really is a slut and a kid of a reasonably close age tweeted a similar comment? Suspend him from his sport?
People need to stop being so sensitive. Actions have consequences, but a non threatening tweet shouldn't ruin anyone's career and or life.

Broadcast stupid thoughts to the world as a representative of a school's sports team, win stupid prizes.

I'd say about 80% of posters on this site need to lose their jobs over posts they have made by your standard.
