I'm bitter and I haven't been around remotely close to that long.
I don't have a problem with the show finishing things at this juncture. They've deviated from the books enough that it's likely going to be two separate stories to get to some inevitable endings. They can't realistically wait on GRRM when you consider casting, production, etc.

Has there ever been such a huge book series that didn't have an ending. Lots of people are invested in this. Going to be some frustration if it never ends.
Wheel of Time was much more popular than ASOIAF for a long time and Robert Jordan croaked 11 books in. They got really lucky getting Brandon Sanderson, an ascending author, to finish off that series (and he did a much better job than Jordan, who had become a lazy writer with bloated books going no where and no sense of direction).

Honestly this is good news. I am so tired of waiting on his fat arse to return from a convention to "write".

by not finishing the books before the show, Martin is losing a lot of money
who wants to read a book when they already saw the show? I suppose he'll then change things up, and everyone will hate him more.
I'm just being honest when I say he comes across as a lazy fricker. I don't care either way, but I'm just saying how I feel about these books. Like some aspects became obvious and now he doesn't know how to change it up and/or he's too lazy to give a shite.

He does not have cancer. He's just old and morbidly obese, and he travels A LOT, so people just assume he will drop dead.
Now that you say that, I do remember reading something about that. I had always heard he had cancer or something like that, and that his health was horrible, but then I saw something where he was like "I'm not sick...I just don't live a healthy lifestyle at all."

So it's more of a lazy thing. There are a LOT of people super attached to this series, so if he manages to not finish it that will assuredly piss massive amounts of people off. That being said, though, I can't hate on the dude for living it up now that he finally got his piece of fame.

This is great news if for no other reason the spoiler police will STFU. No one will know what's going to happen, so no one can go into a fit over someone even mentioning the books.
The books and show are different enough now that this won't impact my reading habits or TV viewing in any way.

Maybe I'm in the minority of book readers, but I'm absolutely okay with this.

If this happens, I honestly hope George changes the end game for the books and says "This is how the story really ends". Otherwise, what's the point of reading the books?

Dune series of books.

Not so fast my friend!

but even still, it will be different levels of discussion IMO
There will always be a need for a Middle Ground thread.

Really? He gave us some awesome with a lot of nothing in between. I don't need to know the details down to the crumbs on the plate for every meal.

So, now I'm wondering . . . how many more years does the HBO series go? 2-3 years?
Posted on 3/23/15 at 6:53 pm to Bham4Tide
I love all the detail about other houses.
And I believe the plan is still 7 seasons.

I think that's a good thing. Not sure I can handle going through more of his subpar writing. I'm sorry, but Feast and Dance were both awful.
