Reading the Hodor thread was almost as good as watching the show, I am going to miss it.

I have abandoned the Hodors to their ignorance and paranoia. No amount of divergence or differing storylines can bridge that gap.

Either you are a reader or you are a Hodor - there is no middle ground (pun intended) with "those" people.

Hodors, by definition, cannot be reasoned with.

I got frustrated at the hardheaded hodors even when I was a Hodor

I officially moved up to middle grounder and it is so much more peaceful. Every thread is just a bitch fest. You can't discuss anything because if you discuses it too much then "obviously you know something we don't YOU SPOILING a-hole BAN HIM" it's like the Salem witch trials in those things

so readers can post in non-reader threads??

Nah. Especially not until the show passes the books...but even still, it will be different levels of discussion IMO.

I don't know what middle ground thread you were in, brah. I had someone call speculating about something that hasn't been revealed in the books to date, "spoilerish". I tried to stay in the middle ground to avoid some obvious upcoming spoilers, but the ignorance was stacked to the rafters there - not as silly as the Hodors thread, but that's not possible in theory, anyway. But pretty bad.

And - of course I'm behind again. I'm only about 10% through the combined/merged/chronological edition of the last 2 books. I need to catch up again, but who has the time.

Is this delay more a laziness thing, or a cancer thing?

I remember hearing a while back that people were legit concerned that he would die before finishing the books...how close is he? Last I heard, he was still writing one with another one or two still planned or something like that.

We're pretty sure he's written himself into a corner and he's either become disinterested in finishing it or he's over committed himself to cons and that sort of thing (he says he only writes at home).

But the fact that he's not exactly the beacon of health and getting up in age is what has spawned the "he gon die" comments.

Its a combination of a few things.

He does not have cancer. He's just old and morbidly obese, and he travels A LOT, so people just assume he will drop dead.

He does seem to be a bit lazy, but thats pure speculation.

He travels A LOT. He is loving the life and fame and is taking full advantage of it. He has a variety of interests and topics and just seems to not care that much about devoting his full attention to ASOIAF. He is loving life and living it.

He has been stuck these past few books on some storylines that have just taken forever. Most people thought that once he got over that particular hump, he would be ok. He hasn't been.

At his pace. No way he lives another 15-20 years to finish the books if there are two more planned after the next.

He is doing it the Lord Gaben way which is why we don't have Half-Life 3.

Ah yes, and he only writes on one old arse computer in one room in his house in New Mexico.

He does not write anywhere else. And he seems to never be home.

There's only one more planned after the current book he is writing.

Honestly, I could easily just not watch the rest of the show while waiting on ONE more book.

But two? Ugh!

Learning all these secrets through the show feels cheap after how much time was invested in reading through the books (both times!). Like paying for a whore instead of working on that hottie for a few dates. Yea, the end result was the same, but the overall experience wasn't nearly as satisfying as it could have been.

And you have to include all the side "projects" he's been writing that are accompaniments to the series such as the Dunk and Egg novellas, the multiple anthologies, etc. So he's not necessarily spending his little bit of time at home writing just the book.

He has at least decided to back away from writing episodes for the show so he can concentrate on the books and cancelled some appearances.

I know I shouldn't be so hard on the guy, he's loving life. He owes us nothing. He can write at whatever pace he likes.

But I've been reading this series since like 1999. I went from feeling pretty bitter at about year 5 after Feast to now my current complete ambivalence. Love the show, don't even care about the books anymore, to be honest.

Has there ever been such a huge book series that didn't have an ending. Lots of people are invested in this. Going to be some frustration if it never ends.
