Watching "The Patriot" for the first time right now.

Good god this movie is terrible... I've got about 30 minutes left but I don't know if I can take it. First off, is Mel Gibson into self mutilation and/or torture because every role he played in the 90's he gets his family killed and home burned. Second, it's incredibly unbelievable, ridiculous, and predictable all at the same time. Animal mother burning the church full of women and children was just dumb, even for that a-hole commander.
Anyway, I'm gonna finish it but I feel like I'm watching Braveheart part deaux.

I could never get through the whole thing myself. It's just so "Hurray for our side. We're good and they're evil" with no depth and just the most simplistic motivations (IMHO of course). And even then that formula can work sometimes if very well done. For me this one just wasn't well done.

The Patriot should be banned - the single most horrendous piece of filth to ever grace the screen of American theaters. It degrades the intelligence. It defiles the righteous. It deflowers the innocence nature of historical mainstream drama.
