Why do people say the basketball team has a lot of talent on it?

In reality we have 4 good players 1 OK player and the rest are hot garbage. In the SEC we are a middle of a pack team when it comes to overall talent. For what he had to work with I think Johnny has done a good job. Now what he has to do is tell Mickey and Martin that they are not NBA ready and come back next year and play on a team that will actually have elite talent.

I agree somewhat but Mickey and Martin are better than just good they are pretty damn close to elite players on the college level. Do they need to develop more? Yes.... But they are as good as it gets, no college player is perfect and all have weak points. Other than those two we are average at the moment. We are still a young team though and I agree Johnny is doing a pretty good job with what we have. The problem most fans have is the intensity these guys lack in games, they are better than losing to MS, Missou, Aub, and Tenn and that's that. They didn't play the way they are capable and that's just not acceptable, they should bring 100% every game and they don't do that. Are they worn from all the minutes? Probably but man lots of teams have the same depth we do or worse and they play hard? It's not the losing its how and who and when they lose. I don't put it on JJ, he can only do so much and then the players have to play. I agree they should come back to work on those weakneses and try to bring LSU a championship next year! We would have a very good team with depth and depending on how Epps, Robinson and the transfer develop or fit into next years team we could very well be one of the best in the country. I know this, if they come back it would be a helleva year and lots more fun for them. If Robonson would develop into a good center this team could be scary good next year!!! They will be good anyway but with these two WOW! GT

We are in the upper third if you go and look at recruiting rankings.

UK and UF are (by recruiting) in a class of their own.

We are right with Mizzou, Arkansas, Bama, TAMU (yes tamu has as many 5 stars as we do and probably as many four stars)

UGA has a 5 star too-Kentavius caldwell pope.

Its just crazy how we got 1 5 star and one high four-Mickey and people expected final 4 runs.

To that end though. This does not excuse losing to a combined Mizzou auburn state Tenn and TAMU twice

Win one or two of those and people feel much better about the season

It's coaching. Just look at Tennessee; they have smaller players. Although talented; they beat LSU big. Their coach had them ready to play the other night. JJ did not have his team ready. JJ should have his team ready to play every game.

For me it's relative. We've got more than we're showing and we've probably got the 3rd or 4th best in the conference at worst and IMHO more than enough to make the field of 68.

And my concern is that we aren't going to live up to any of that in on court performance.....again!

Because we're LSU, so our players must be great and the coach sucks.

Absolutely no excuse to have as many horrible losses as we've had this year. Tennessee may be the worst of all considering what was on the line, how we beat Tenn. just a few weeks ago and the mystifying lack of effort/intensity we displayed.

Do we have "elite" talent with the likes of UK, Duke, etc.? Hell no. But do we have sufficient talent to where we shouldn't be scratching and clawing for a chance to sneak in the tourney right now? Hell no.

How many SEC teams has more talent than LSU?

Losing to teams like Tenn, Mizzou, Auburn, Miss St isn't a talent issue.

I agree with the OP. Our starters lead the league in minutes played. They are constantly battling fatigue later in the game. We have no bench and Mickey and Martin are no where near elite. They are good at times, but also disappear at times at well. If our starters have an off game we can pretty much lose to anyone, because our lack of depth is so bad.

In nearly every game we play Mickey and Martin are the two best players on the court. Then we have 3 7 footers on the bench, a 6'6" point guard, and a shooting guard that could play for any team in the SEC. Our backup point guard is clearly a talented ball handler and the 3rd guard we use as a starter has a great shot and is a fantastic defender.

Quite simply they use their eyes to evaluate the talent, not a win - loss record and an undying worship of a coach who makes less moves during the game than just about any coach in D-1.

I'm curious/. Who are the 4? Mickey, Martin and Quarterman I can guess and then who? Hornsby? Or is he just the ok one? Serious, not trying to be sarcastic.

this game went a long way towards putting this question to rest. win at ark without mickey. ark has been the clear #2, 2nd most consistent team all season. only lost once at home in 18 games.

juco national scoring leader comes off the bench. aaron epps with valuable playing time. even malone made a few plays.

this team has as much talent as anybody in the conference except ky. they haven't played consistently so, the question is whether or not it's on the players or the coaches.

LSU has two guys who could leave after this year and start cashing NBA checks.
Even if that aren't drafted they'll make a roster.

Hornsby will probably be able to make a living over seas.

Gray (as of late), Patterson, and TQ are all above average players in the league.
