Trucks having an 80,000# max gross weight cannot accelerate or brake in an instance. It takes a little bit
1. He sure didn't seem to have any problem accelerating to get so close to the car in front of him that a VW couldn't fit between them
2. Why would a truck driver get within 10 feet of another car at ~70 mph then?

You can hear him talking on the phone in a southern accent.
I'd say he's probably on a bluetooth device though, which is legal, because talking on a handheld device in a commercial vehicle is illegal nationwide, unlike in a personal vehicle.

Have any of you driven 18-wheelers? It's quite possible that the driver couldn't see the car easing in front of him at first. She was quick and forceful in her maneuvering.
I'm not taking sides, by any means. The driver of the Jetta is at-fault.
You don't want to be behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler while trying to stop on a dime. You also don't know what his load was. Liquids? Hazards? Piping? Trees? Could have been anything that, when slamming on the brakes, could have caused an even bigger accident.

I dont hear an enginr rev up at all which usually driving a heavy truck you hear it working a little bit even if its a slight change. I dont think he sped up i think she was starting to slow down with truck ahead getting close. Either way even if he did speed up its still her fault

I couldnt tell if he was accelerating or the VW is decelerating. Looks to me like VW hits blinker and brakes getting over

This chick tried to squeeze into a small spot that was about to get a lot smaller.
Her biggest mistake was getting off the gas (she might have even hit the brakes). She had the room. If she changes lanes and accelerates to the vehicle in front of her, the truck would not have hit her. Hell, even when he went to the left side of the lane, if she gets on the gas, she avoids the accident.
The trucker was being an a-hole. But, it was her incompetence that caused the wreck.

How do you know the 18-wheeler accelerated and not that the other vehicles slowed?

i hope the truck driver dies in a fiery crash

I could be wrong, but if the car ended up sideways in-front of the truck; 1 of 2 things had to happen:
1) The car sped up after impact
2) The truck slowed down after impact
Correct me if I am wrong.

the truck sped up...frick him

turn up the volume..you can hear the truck accelerate and then slow down when he gets close to the car in front of him

He was being an arse not letting her in, but she was being more of an arse by trying to cut off a Semi.

Bunch of retards on this board.
It happened in Interstate 45 southbound, beginning about a mile north of exit 190 to Huntsville State Park. It's another mile before an entrance ramp to IH45 comes up and so before everyone starts yapping about merging traffic, why not see if that is the case? Google/Bing/etc is your friend. I mean it isn't like that big brown sign doesn't say anything
Trucker in the left lane had a right to be there and did nothing wrong. Video begins with the truck in the right lane coming up so he obviously was in the left lane to pass it. it is very hilly in that area and to maintain speed, it is necessary to do what the trucker was doing. The left lane trucker was a safe distance from the small blue truck in its lane, seemingly matching its speed. Once the Altima merged, the safe gap disappeared just before the crest of the hill. It was into this gap that the VW merged. The gap was NOT big enough to have accommodated that VW and it was the VW that was tailgating as soon as it merged. It appears the trucker started to speed up in anticipation of passing the right-lane truck once the vehicle in front of the blue truck moved over and the blue truck could speed up. If anything, it was the car ahead of the blue truck that was the problem, but it was the actions of the Altima and VW merging in front of the left lane truck that created the accident. See the Altima change lanes twice after the accident? The VW was doing the same- zip, zip, zip. IH45 is full of asshat drivers from Houston to Dallas, and blaming the left lane trucker shows how utterly retarded many on this board really are.

I doubt he accelerated, most company trucks are limited around 60-65 and he probably had his cruise control set to the max.
I also think he could have seen the car, though he might've needed to lean foward a bit. May be the reason he wasn't slowing down while approaching the cars in front.

The trucker is by far the greater a-hole.
He could've easily avoided the accident except that:
He was talking on the phone like a bitch.
He wasn't paying a lick of attention to what he was doing.
His goofy phone-talking arse is in the left lane.
He's a trucker.
Yes, she came over tight, but all that numbnuts had to do was lift for two seconds.
If he shows that tape to his boss, they'll run his arse off.

Making an assumption because he is gaining on all three vehicles in front of him that are not being impeded at all and not a single one hits their brake lights. He then continues to gain on them as he is swerving off the left side of the road. That shows me that he was refusing to slow down and was damn sure that she was not going to get in between him and the Altima. Like I said, she is at fault, but he has blame also. Not sure why he would intentionally put himself in that mess.
Would be no different than me intentionally striking a car that was running a red light when my light turned green. If I wanted to do this in Nola I could do it every day, why would I though?

I'll just say this, if I have to hit my brakes, you fricked up
Now if it's an 18 wheeler.....
Now if it's an 18 wheeler.....

Whether the truck should have been in the left lane or not is irrelevant to the issue of the wreck. He was in the lane and has no legal responsibility to slow down and let her in regardless of her blinker. Even if he's being a dick by speeding up, he has no obligation to let her in just because she puts her blinker on. A blinker isn't there to say "Hey motherfricker, this is what I'm doing and frick you if you don't like it", it's there to say "this is my intent". As the driver changing lanes it's her responsibility to make sure she has enough room to do so. She didn't. She gambled that she could force her way in just so she wouldn't have to wait behind the other, slower 18-wheeler. She lost.
This is absolutely spot on. Honestly, good for the trucker for standing up for his right of way. If this was a schoolyard, the Volkswagen would be suspended for bullying the trucker.

Maybe she'll learn a lesson from this.
I would not bet the farm on this.
