Quite honestly, him beating the game like that is the second most impressive thing about it.

It is a custom level and it was 100% done with tool assist.
It still probably takes a lot of work to figure out what to tell the program to run, but it isn't like someone is actually in direct control of those actions.

He's using a tool that lets allows him to speed the game up, slow it down if he goes too fast, and most importantly he can rewind frame by frame to redo something every time he dies.
The info on the video says 78,160 re-records which means he died/messed up and thus rewound 78000+ times in order to create this perfect run.
