What is this? I have a 10 mo old rescue that looks a lot like that in the face. His coat is similar , maybe not quite that long and darker. He is a big 'un - already 80 lbs. personality sounds like your dog. As well, he makes the most pitiful little-dog whiny noises. His mom was a smallish pit mix - but I can't figure out what the rest of him is - not like any pit mix I've ever had - personity or looks. Oh and he's got this damn thick gator tail that will knock the sh$& out of you...

quote:Get her one, they are the smartest and most loyal and trainable dogs around! We love ours - got her as a 14 month old rescue dog. Never regretted a minute - she is 7 1/2 yrs old now. Devoted, active, protective and playful as ever. We walk her twice a day around our neighborhood. Plus our yard in between. She loves inside and goes to her spot to lie down. I'd recommend a crate for yours to sleep in or to go to when you want her to - you don't need to close the crate door if you train it to "stay". Very obedient. One downside is that as a breed Shepherds do shed a lot. Brush regularly with a Furminator helps.
My 10 year old daughter wants a German Shepherd Dog. She sees them on the tv show Cops all the time and she thinks they are the most beautiful awesome dogs.
I plan to get her one when she is 15.

Kangal. Or Anatolian. Or akbash.
Wait until he's asleep and lightly play a wolf howling. If he runs to the door, he might be one.
They are fairly rare and quite large.
140lbs at 11 months. Would post actual pics, but too many OT sleuths.

We have a Lab (#1) and a Portuguese Water Dog (#51).
Love them both but I will always have a PWD in my house until I'm too old to care for a dog.
Best breed ever. Super smart, obedient, affectionate, loyal, full of personality, and they don't shed at all.

They obviously stay out of the hood and trailer parks

I was surprised to see Rotties in the top 10 for the last few years. They are not a dog for everyone, but the best breed I have ever owned. I'm on my second one now with a 4 1/2 month old pup. I waited about 8 years to get another one and I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner.

I see the thug pos breed didn't make the cut.

Just read about the Anatolian - sure sounds like mine - especially the fast part - as big as he is he can keep up w my little cur pit mix. Can't imagine where his mom met up with that rare of a dog though. I live on acreage w cows and horses and he has acclimated well. I usually have problems with a new pup getting too rough w the cows at first, but he never did. He can dig an armadillo out faster than any dog I've seen (made me proud!) I think he may turn out to be the best dog I've ever had...

They have a tendency to want to wander. Set a perimeter and walk it at night.
We fenced in an acre or so to let the dogs play while we aren't home, and to make it easy to let em out at night. Every single night I have to walk out off the porch and pick him up and carry him in.
He knows when the coyotes are in the far pasture WAY before we ever hear a sound.
If anyone ever wants to breed some as livestock guardians, he Will be uncut for another two years or so.
But these aren't pets for the average Joe. They are as far from a regular dog as a wolf...and damned near as intelligent.
Vet seems to think he will hit 200lbs. I honestly don't know.

200 lbs?? Damn - I was floored when my vet said ours would probably hit 100.

Miniature Pinscher is a great little dog = intelligent, feisty, funny, fearless, doesn't shed.

They take a full three years to mature and live 12-15 years with no health issues. Lol
You're in for the long haul.

My dog actually has the dame sire as Ted Kennedy's PWDs and as the Obama's first dog, Beau. But we had ours first.
There aren't a lot of breeders. We got ours from a breeder in Memphis and they had to get the sperm shipped from the sire in Pennsylvania and then did artificial insemination.
The breeders are very selective and careful about breeding so that they don't produce too many puppies and when you agree to buy one, you have to agree to get them fixed so you can't breed them or so they can't be used by puppy mill breeders.
I had to go through more to get my PWD then I did do have an actual child.
