This was a hike I did in New Zealand 2 years ago. I figure it's time to share some of these pictures with the almighty OT.
New Zealand = Heaven on Earth
Enjoy!
Summit (5,735ft)
Southern Alps
Bonus Pic: Sea Kayaking Lake Wakatipu

Nice to see the sky around Mordor has cleared up since the whole Frodo incident.

beautiful pictures. why are people sitting so close to the ledge of the rock? it looks like if someone sneezed hard they could be knocked off: into the clouds.

YOLO! Haha. To answer your question, I don't think there was a sheer drop off that ledge.

Funny that you posted this today.

The prefix waka in New Zealand is pronounced frick a. Just so you know. Awesome pics. The land of the long white cloud. I always thought that was from the weed in the Shire. BTW, Milford Sound is cool as are the Waitomo caves (glow worms!).

Was this a vacation? Is NZ a good place visit with family?

Yup. Spent 2 weeks in New Zealand and a week in Australia.

I think it's better suited for solo, husband and wife, or a small group of adventure travelers. It's an outdoors paradise so be prepared to hike, climb, swim, bungee jump, ect. Roads are really windy, so as a driver you get really tired sooner than in the U.S. Probably not a good idea with young kids.

I didn't know heaven was so mountainous.

Yup. I started at around 8am at the very bottom of the mountain in the suburb of Fernhill. Took 4 hrs to get to the summit. It was the toughest hike I've been on, so tough I even considered turning around, but once I saw those clouds below me half way through, I knew I had to push on to the top.

Handsdown New Zealand was the better part of the trip. The amazing scenery is something I'll never forget. Plus there was lots of adventure activities like glacier hikes and bungee jumping you can't really get anywhere else in such a compact area.
