North rim, south rim or both?

The fam and I will be spending a day or two at the south rim in June.

North Rim, a lot less touristy and the lodge is nice

Generally speaking, North Rim isn't as crowded, developed or hot. It's "harder" to get to and is at a higher elevation than the South Rim.

if want to go see a giant old hole you should just pull down your mom's pants. in fact, you will see two of them

Depends on what you're doing (hiking?), and what you want to see. They are both very different in landscape, as the North Rim is at a higher elevation. The North Rim is much more forested and green, TONS of aspens. As another poster mentioned it's much less crowded. It felt like there was hardly anyone there when we went at the beginning of August a couple of years ago. If staying for a few nights, I'd suggest the North Rim and grab one of the cabins if they're even still available.
However, unless you are hiking to the bottom and back, IMO I would not suggest making the Grand Canyon your only destination if you are vacationing for a few days or more. I'd suggest you stay a night at one of the rims and spend the day checking out some of the trails. I've been to North Rim, and we incorporated this with a trip to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon Natl Park, and a stop in Page, AZ on the way there and saw Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Stayed a few nights at Zion, there is lots to do there. Bottom line is, GC is just awesome, but after a full day it's possible to see just about everything there is at the rim.
I'm going to the South Rim over spring break for the first time, and we're taking a day trip there from Sedona, where we're staying for 5 nights.

We flew into Vegas and did Hoover Dam, then a couple days at the South Rim, a couple days at Zion National Park and a couple days at Lake Powell. Very nice trip and glad we got to see as much as we did.

The Grand Canyon is very cool but way down the list of national parks for me. Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, and Arches in Utah are all prettier to me. Most of them also have better hiking.

A couple of years ago hubby, three teenage children and I went to Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion. Bryce our absolute favorite.

That lodge at the North Rim is pretty awesome. The grand dining room is something else, too - the view and all.

We did both. Rode horses in Byrce, and we spent 4 nights in Vegas.

Many years ago I opted for Havasu canyon. Was a great trip at the time - single, and in college on spring break.
Now, with kids, I'd have to think about Bryce or Zion with a side trip to the GC.

Fly in to Phoenix, head up to Sedona for 2 days before hitting the South Rim. Spend 2 days at the GC(stay at El Tovar). Then head over to Vegas for 2 or 3 days.

Helicopter ride, you have to try it once. One of the few things in life you should spend money on

Second the GC helicopter ride. It was like $225 when I did it a few years ago. Awesome experience.
