quote:Yep. I'm 48 and I can still put up more reps than Lael did. Do I think I'm stronger than him? Yeah, right. Nope.
I'm not vain enough to put it on youtube though I did videotape it, but ULL football coach Mark Hudseath showed what us old guys can do.
I've frankly always been fascinated by some of the bench numbers at the NFL combine because they are so utterly not incredible. If you spend any time in a real gym, you see guys that can do those reps.
BUT, clearly, that's a result of the type of training these NFLers are engaging in. They clearly are training for explosive power and for the ability to do A LOT of work(force times distance) in a short period of time. The ability to move 225 many times isn't nearly as important as the ability to move 400 or more(or something close) once.

This clearly proves your point .. Thanks!
NFL players really aren't training on a regular basis on how many 225 reps they can do though, so one wouldn't expect them to be upper echelon at that.

Doing 225 over 20 times sounds pretty incredible to me.

Nope. Hands weren't big enough to palm the ball and dunk, but I could grab the rim at the second knuckle.

Apparently pretty easy as well

I'm 5'11" and at the time I was 270 and 50 years old. As I said earlier, I have no idea what my 40 and vertical leap are, but it's safe to say that my sub-5.00 days are many years and many pounds ago.

A better question would be what is the average vertical of an OT'er. I would bet most would say at one point theirs was over 30 inches which is higher than the average NBA player.
What are you talking about? Standing vertical? That's still probably wrong, and if it is correct, its because of the 7 footers weighing it down. They are not in the NBA because of their jumping ability.

Does it place you in the top 5% or so of men? Yep. But, that's A LOT of men!!!!
And, like I said, just because an NFLer may not do high reps at 225 doesn't mean he's not strong. What a guy can move one or two times is not directly related to what he can move 20-25 times. I mean, there is a relation, but if you give me 10 guys who one rep max at say, 350, I'll show you 10 guys with a surprising variance of total reps at 225.

do I have to run the full 40? I might have to take a break maybe do a 20 and double it.
In high school I could dunk. I am 5'9.5 I was probably 175 So my vertical was around 27-32 inches
Never timed my 40 but I think it would have been around 5

I actually ran a 4.56 last week while doing some foot work and speed training.
I'm 34, 5'10, 198 lbs...about 6.5% body fat. I work out every damn day, twice a day tho and i'm at my peak. I'm just gonna get slower from here. Hah

Alas, now, I'm content just to be strong. 48 year old bodies just don't move as fast.(Unless you're inhuman like Herschel)
My days of single digit bodyfat seem to be behind me too but, I still hover close. But yeah....

Oh. By the way, if I had to say what age I felt the best combination of strength and speed it was about age 33, so...........yep, you're 34. Sorry. It's all downhill from here!
