Why are people with blue collar jobs looked down upon?

Of course here on the OT everything will be looked down upon.
Some people make a good living working hard and enjoy life. Not everyone goes to college nor should they. I have no problem with people who work hard for living.

Just the plant operators

I think people just associate white collar with management.
Blue collar doesn't necessarily mean you work hard either. Lots of my blue collar friends sit on a bucket in the middle of a plant 80% of a day doing jack shite.

People that look down on others that work hard at an honest job that doesn't hurt anyone are assholes.

its cliche to look down on people for whatever reason on the OT.
what i like is when posters get bent out of shape because someone else talks about insert profession here

I think most people respect blue collar workers.
It's usually the blue collar workers who think they're looked down upon.

Why does anyone care who looks down on them? If you enjoy what you do that should be enough.

I don't think skilled blue collar labor is looked down upon at all. Plumbers, Electricians and HVAC guys are usually some of the most well off people in any given city.

Thanks for the insight, Good Will Hunting.

Probably has it's roots in everyone going to college. I remember back in the 90's it was either you're going to college, joining the military or you're going to be in some loser job which usually translated in to ditch digging chump.
Of course on the OT err body trying to trump err body.

It's easy to get a rise out of them.

People who are insecure need validation. Same reason Christians are made fun of.

Mike Rowe has a great TEDtalk about this...

Because somewhere along the line (baby boomers?) going to college instead of doing manual labor became as much a part of the American Dream as the house with the white picket fence.
I think it's a real shame that honest, productive work is so looked down upon while we worship people that produce nothing.

You do realize the majority of these people doing this prob still live with their parents?
I've been saying this for a couple years now.
In order to post here you should be required to post your:
age
sex
race
education level
and what you currently do to earn money.
It would weed out a lot of this back and forth trolling shite.

People have issues with this...

Because working outside is "trashy", baw. Just like cargo shorts, salt life stickers, and eating at Chili's_signed, the OT.

I'm a manager for a local bank and revealed to some coworkers that I don't have a college degree. It's amazing how they reacted but I'm still the first person they call if a question needs answering.
