This is one of my favorite videos of Bird:

"Nobody played him! He just dribbled the ball and froze everybody and everybody just ran away from Larry Bird!"
Yes indeed

I didn't know Bird went around calling people "homes"
Sounds exactly like something Bird would do
It's probably the only slang word he knew

Bird was the GOAT shite talker
Has to be. I love Bird stories and could listen to/read about them for hours.
One of my favorites was the game where Bird was purportedly bored and decided to shoot left handed. Scored 47 points that night, and almost half of them were with his left hand.
Highlights.
Bird was so awesome.

Bird used to talk to opposing coaches a lot too
Would say things like "You better get someone else to guard me Coach or I may score 60"
Or
"Is this really who you're gonna have guarding me tonight?"
Bird was the man

Bird scores 60 on Atlanta
Huh...that was actually in 1984/85 season when Atlanta played a string of games in New Orleans as home games for some reason.
You had that game where Bird went insane, and then several weeks later you had Chicago come to town and Jordan as a rookie and Wilkins went nuts. Thankfully I had talked my dad into taking me to that game! Awesome...

That 1988 playoff series, especially the final game of it,was great.
Wilkins really put the Hawks on his back.Came up just short.
He earned a lot of respect from everyone with the way he played.

The NBA was so awesome back then.

IDK how Bird could get home sick in Bloomington. IU is located in a small town.

That's one thing I wish would carry over to today's game, the downright near-hate competitiveness!!! You just feel like all the top guys are all friends and are just playing basketball for fun. Lacks some of the old school feel and appeal.
you can thank AAU for that

I was at that game too.
Nique had, I believe, 52 points and 28 boards.
Celtics pulled away in the 4th though.
I remember Bird was going to auction off his shoes, jersey, autographed ball from the game, but did said he was not giving away anything since that was his career high score at the time.
I think it ended up staying that way.

They show a shot of our bench, Cliff Livingston and Eddie Johnson are standing up giving each other high fives
Cliff was always very animated on the bench. You could tell he was having fun just watching games from the bench. He probably hated to actually have to go in and play.

Bird participated in a few NBA All Star Games 3 point contests & he was famous for walking out on the court, staring down the other contestants, and telling them "you do know you are playing for 2nd place". And then went out & won. One of his greatest shots was when he came down full speed on the right side of the basket & a shot rebounded straight to him. Without breaking stride, his momentum practically leading him out of bounds, he grabbed & shot the ball, left hand, all in one motion & got nothing but the net. The Garden went nuts. Glad he dropped out of Indiana, as I can see Bobby Knight messing up his head.
