I was going to say it's like liquid sex but after that recent report about squirt, I really don't think it's much of a complement.

I had some Pappy 23 at Christmas. I felt like a king but can't say that the drink was really that great.
it's at the bottom of the list if you actually want to drink Pappy. It's just too old.

if you took 15-20 yr Makers from the prime spot of the rickhouse it would probably be just as good. your comparing a 6ish year bourbon to a 15+ year bourbon. apples to oranges

maybe 1 day Makers will release their new cask strength at an older age statement. doubt it though

This and also, it's all about the ideal aging locations and the right recipe that will age well. As evidenced by the recent Orphan Barrel series, just because a whiskey is 20+ years old, doesn't mean it will be good. Most whiskey probably hits its ideal aging point somewhere between 8-15 years. If it ages too long, it will just be an oak bomb.
In addition, you have to be a fan of the particular type of whiskey. Pappy is a wheated bourbon like Maker's Mark which many don't care for bc not as pronounced and often not as complex as perhaps higher rye content and other mixes.
All in all, I appreciate it for what it is and will try to acquire it when I can. I can't say the same for most high end wines because my palate is not good enough at detecting those differences. Drink what's good to you; try em out sometime

Wellers Antique mixed with Wellers 12 year at either a 50-50 ratio or a 60-40 Antique to 12 which is what I do. Let it sit for at least 2 weeks and the longer the better.

I really enjoy Elijah Craig......... And at $25 a bottle....

I like it as much as some fairly expensive highland Malt scotches....
Apparently I like my scotch/bourbon on the sweet side.
