So if you make $4 million dollars per home game against an OOC foe...

You'd rather play a tougher opponent and reduce the home schedule by one game in order to play a neutral site game that yields a financially neutral result in the name of marketing and branding?
Something doesn't seem to make sense. It's not just recruiting and marketing that compels us to make a decision that's revenue neutral. Is LSU not telling us the truth about what its pulling it for home games anymore?
Also, like it or not but the local economy is impacted by a smaller home slate.
I just don't understand how they can ask everyone from Season Ticket holders to suite owners to pay the same money-if not more-for less of a product. It's a defacto method of increasing ticket prices and lowering their own overhead when they hold a home game.
Just a fleecing by another means.

They aren't having problems selling home tickets or season tickets so they aren't asking anything. It obviously makes the school more money to play these OOC games or they wouldn't do it.

The comparison is between two neutral site games and a home-and-home series.
2 neutral site games earns LSUAD $8-9Million.
Home-and-home earns LSUAD about $4.5 million. That is because LSUAD only gets $500K in the year we would play at the other campus.

This. LSU gets more money playing Wisky (et all) in 2 neutral sites vs home and home.
Or we can just keep scheduling the Blind School of the Deaf University of the South for OCC cup cake games with no home and home requirement?
I'd rather the tougher game on a neutral site.

Wake up it's called business! If there is a way to make more money, even if it comes at the expense of the fans, you can just about bet it is going to happen.

Pretty much why I stopped getting season tickets. if you recall in 2011, we had 6 home games, taff fees remained the same. So instead of being spread across 7-8 games, it is spread across 6. And when 2 of those are against shite opponents, I don't feel like shelling out $200 for those games when I can usually find people giving those away on game day.

The problem is you have to schedule an away game to get a decent OOC opponent. The away game gets you around $500,000. So you get $4.5 million for 2 games as opposed to $8 million for 2 neutral site games. It is not a financially neutral outcome.

I would rather attend an LSU game in Houston or Dallas or some other neutral site against a tough opponent than see LSU pound some cupcake in Baton Rouge.

Understood. So why aren't LSU Fans more PO'd that we've undergone a de facto price increase along with having to pay for an additional road trip every year?
This is a large increase when you factor in the math involved. It's not like this process is going away anytime soon. Not as long as Vice Chancellor Alleva continues to pay the $8 million dollar bribe to the Academic side that Jindal ensures they'll always need.

I agree with you gfunk. The one thing that they didn't tell you is that it cost about 2 million as well to travel the team, band, and it's entourage. So that's only a net income of about 2 million. It makes no sense to travel and impact someone else's economy (Houston or Dallas) when it's the state of Louisiana and mainly the Baton Rouge business that support LSU athletics. These local businesses are the ones who support the program and donate money to their causes (TAF), and give the Athletes summer jobs. I found it appalling that the university choses to dilute the at home schedule to travel away for a game. The economic impact of one home game has to be in the 10's of millions of dollars when you consider the food & beverages sold for tailgates, restaurants serving meals, hotel stays, fuel at gas stations for travel, etc. when you take this out of state you are stealing from the ones that support the program. LSU is not "dancing with the one that brought them to the dance." Not to mention the watered down schedule with 4 weak games is a joke. It draws no attendance for the university to up sell concessions and merchandise and hurts the local businesses as well. Sorry for the rant, but I'm shock to see that people don't see the effect of moving a game out of state!

I hated it when the neutral site trend began to take hold. College football games should be held on college campuses. They should be held in the local area of one of the competing schools so local merchants can benefit. It should be an opportunity for a school to showcase itself to visitors who would otherwise never visit the campus.

You can't have it both ways. Let's say LSU could magically create a schedule that played 1 or 2 of the best teams from the other Power 5 conferences every year. We'd always have only 7 home games because we'd always be returning a trip to the Okalhomas, Florida States, UCLA's of the world. You can't get top flight teams to come play in Baton Rouge without going back to their place. It just doesn't happen.
That's why the neutral site games are such a big hit with all the schools. They get to play the tougher matchups without having to guarantee a return anywhere.

Just wait till Jindal gets his way and then Athletics will be forced by public outcry to give 14M/year to academics instead of the 7.5M now.

The administration has done a beautiful job of setting this up as the only logical dichotomy.

Anyone who knows Jindal is aware that he is no friend of LSU. LSU is lucky that its athletic department is self-sufficient, largely due to the revenues generated by the football program. The state flagship university is so poorly funded that it's laughable, and every year there are more and more cuts to the higher education budget.

well they need to stop because then I leave early, which then causes me to be subjected to getting yelled at by the super fans here
