You have the right to smoke, but you also have the right to breathe fresh air. You should not be allowed to smoke around the general public.

So you are going to risk your revenue tickets, liquor license and video poker license to let people smoke in your bar?
Put this right up there with the left lane for passing law. It is just feel good legislation.

How this issue became transmogrified into THE LAST STAND FOR AMERICAN FREEDOM is simply hilarious to me.
This. I'm all for freedom from UNREASONABLE government interference. But why all these idiots choose to argue this point about a regulation that has simply been recognized as a sound, important public health policy by the rest of the country and a lot of places around the world is beyond me.

no you don't
and this isn't a debate about smokers. this is a debate about property rights

a private place is not "the general public"
you have to choose to go into that area and you have the choice NOT to go into that area.

we already have WAY too many rules regulating a person's use of his/her own private property. this is yet another one

Can we still fart in private businesses or is this outlawed too?
Just don't fart smoke and you should be okay.

I'm coming way late into this discussion, and I'm sure it's already been said.
But a huge "lol" @ New Orleans being worried about cigarette smoke. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Legit reason and fair tradeoff, IMO. Now we can still enjoy our favorite bars without smelling like smoke, and the smokers can still smoke at said bar..just outside. Everyone wins
Sorry but I don't like alcohol. Not only does tt cause ~88,000 deaths a year but it leads to fights and injuries and people acting like jackasses. Since this inconveniences me I say it's high time to ban private establishments from selling alcohol. For the common good and all.

But but but second hand smoke.
It's a great analogy, but will fall on deaf ears with the pro smoking ban crowd.
I'll throw loud music into the mix as well. Loud music causes ear drum trauma, therefore I want a decibel meter at every bar to make sure it's not too loud. I can't stand when I voluntarily go into a bar that has loud music and I can't hear myself talk.
Posted on 1/24/15 at 8:55 pm to rintintin
Since air pollution is a problem, I'm going to push for a noise pollution law. Music is way too loud in bars.

I'll just say this. It's on a much smaller scale but when Beaumont Tx passed this it killed the little bar district they had known as crocket st. Lol at people that are getting wasted in bars acting like they are health conscious.

I support laws that restrict things that I do not like. All freedom is not important , just those that impact me.

This is stupid legislation as usual. If the government was really concerned about the health effects they would outlaw tobacco completely. Any other product that is used as intended and caused death and disease would be pulled off the shelf immediately.
