I'm currently running a Sunbeam 4 slicer, no crank, just a handy push lever to engage the heating elements. Great for toast and toaster streudels, but bagels seem to get stuck a lot.

Hell I'll jump on!

Kitchen Aid stainless. Dual crank. Dial "throttle" setting. Digital dash.

Toast is fine...haven't run bagels. No stumps either...unless that's the word for the heels of the bread?

Mines a Hamilton Beach. I got the 4 slice stainless digital to avoid the crank option. Had it for about 2 years no issues. Haven't tried stumps, but my 3 yr old ran a Lala Loopsie doll through it a month or so ago. Thought I was gonna have to bring it into the shop but ended up taking it to an ol boy down the road that tinkers on them. Ended up with a slight tick and some cosmetic issues, otherwise she's back and running like new.

Got one of those camp fire baskets that toast great or makes one hell of a grill cheese. Old school as I'm going to get besides using a black skillet.

Made it many mornings over the gas burner on my stove back before I had a wife and the need for a real toaster.

True old timer story: Mrs. Tigerdeacon's grandfather ran an old-school 8 slice bohemoth. It probably handled stumps too. Of course, he was known for ordering a whole loaf toasted for breakfast at restaurants.

Is this about a toaster or a tohatsu?

Because I have a black and decker 4 slicer. Everybody told me to go twice as big as I thought I needed and that turned out to be bull. I rarely use the right 2 slots.

My cousin has a 25 tohatsu that is a beast. It eats Toledo stump fields for breakfast.
