This isn't the rant.
And I have a place for each. Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and chicken gravy.
Pot roast with rice.

Potatoes. All day, every day. They're so much more versatile.
What's your wife's number?

Gumbo, Crawfish, shrmp or chix stew & etouffee goes on rice.
Beef or chicken stew and gravy steaks go on mashed potatos

i like to piss my wife off by making a cauliflower puree instead of rice to me it really depends on the dish. ive also experimented with using orzo instead of rice. if i could figure out the orzo to liquid ratio without screwing it up i think i would try to make a jambalaya with it

Orzo is pasta
Use the pastalaya method

thats what i figured. as long as the recipe uses pounds for the measure of pasta i guess it would be easy to figure out.

My wife cooks either rice or potatoes to make me happy.
Which one we have depends on what is cooked with it.
For example, with butter and cinnamon, it must be rice.
With meat, it can be either:
If she makes sausage, biscuits and over easy eggs, it must be rice.
I'm pretty sure about one thing. If she cooks for you, she probably loves you.

I like mashed potatoes, but I almost always have cooked rice lurking in the fridge. Cajuns like rice, cher.

Rice is more versatile, but really is only as good as what you dump on it. Mashed potatoes are way better by them self, but make your butt big. I prefer the mashed potato. But eat more rice, for some reason.

Rice for sure, but every once in a while I'll make mashed potatoes to satisfy my wife whom never owned a rice cooker before she met me.
