I don't care if someone takes their shoes off but it's usually a gym rule to keep them on. And there ain't nothing wrong with curling in the squat rack if there is more than 1 and they're not being used.

Some nasty frick at my gym was doing deadlifts barefoot. He threw a big fit when the staff made him put shoes him.

deadlift or squat

No reason to go shoeless for any other exercise IMO.

I've noticed a few guys at my gym working out with out shoes. I don't know why but I also don't care.

Or is working out while shoeless acceptable?

I hate it when dudes take their clothes off. First shoes then before you know it everyone's naked flinging ball sweat all over the dumbbells. This isn't Ancient Greece!

I go shoeless for DL and squats. To address the reason, I couldn't keep the weight off the balls of my feet. I tried to buy the most flat bottomed shoe and still couldn't. In socks I can keep more weight on my heals. Out of about ten regular gym goers at my workout time 2 of us do it.
